We saw the Bow River many different times during our stay and it never disappointed. Some views were nice enough to sit down and stay for a while. Great for canoeing and kayaking.

Nice place to go with kids and family. Better stay 1 night at Banff and spend more time there and hiking, a lot to see in summer time.

We rented an inflatable raft and unsure of what to expect, packed a lunch and put on our water shoes and life jackets and headed down to the river. Two vehicles required! We parked one downriver, then drove up to our launching point. The river is shallow and the current is slow, so the five of us easily carried the raft and our supplies out into the river, climbed in, and we were off! Only a couple of points had any wave or little bit of white water action. We were mainly serenely floating downstream enjoying the sun, or paddling a bit cuz felt like we weren't moving.
V relaxing. Lovely. If you are into chilling, this is for you!

Bow River is very clean considering it runs through the city, and has a beautiful walkway running alongside it.

The Bow River to visitors can be that trip of a lifetime. To one it can be the world class guided 'Fly Fishing' in one of the best trout fisheries in the world!! To another, it may be the beautiful colours it produces as it greets mountaineers, hikers, bikers and anyone driving, interested in seeing some of the most stunning visually enlightening scenery and vistas, known on this planet! Even just cutting through the 'Banff Park' on the way to or from 'British Columbia', it can garner "ooh's & aah's" from travellers that have made the trip countless times.
The Bow Falls in 'Banff' is great. Very fast, powerful and mesmerizing, especially in the spring run-off! Hike the many feeder creeks like 'Johnston's Canyon' for an amazing day trip!
Fish the Bow, it's tributaries, lakes or dams, too many to list. Just stop at almost any gas station to purchase a map or guide, or a sporting goods store in one of the towns or cities and purchase a Provincial fishing license and you will receive an official guide complete with provincial regulations!
There are countless places to picnic, day stay or camp, from tenting to full hook-up RV sites. You can even find cabins and lodges, check on the internet!
In the town's and City's of Banff and Calgary, you will find river related events. There are carnivals, rafting and canoeing and other seasonal events. Pick up a guide at the local 'Visitors Centre', or find one on the internet. In Calgary, there is a professional kayaking park in the finishing stages with different runs with different degrees of difficulty!!
The Bow River is cherished by those who thrive living in its wake! Talked about by those who visit it. And nurtured by those who ingest it's clear clean nectar . . .
And don't forget the Calgary Zoo, it is situated on an island in the Bow River, but that's another review!!
The beautiful Bow River!!
