Owner description: Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

There are a lot of activities for everyone in the family to enjoy! Excellent show case of agriculture and where our food comes from. The Young Canadians performance is outstanding and a must-see!

This is not just your usual rodeo boasting. The stampede is celebrating a 100 year history in 2012 of expanding on the best attributes rodeos around North America offers. As a native born Calgarian of 70 years I still think it more than lives up to it's name. We have hosted Royalty and celebrities over the years but it is still a fun and friendly place to be, meeting everyday folks and sharing in our pride. A time to celebrate our western heritage and practice hospitality from free pancake breakfasts and street dancing to mingling with the crowds throughout the city or on the grounds. Weather you love to party hearty, are just a little more subdued, or having a great time with your kids, this is tyhe place to be in early July each year. We give the cry YAHOO a whole new meaning and itwill leave you feeling great.

The Stampede is the ultimate attraction. What an exciting 10 days! You start with the parade downtown with 2+ hours of entertainment and then from there you have numerous choices. The grounds are probably typical of midway entertainment but add in the tour of the barns and agricultural setups (and don't forget to wear western gear) and you have just gotten started. The afternoon rodeo is put on by professional cowboys who care deeply about the health and safety of the animals as this is their bread and butter. The evening chuckwagons and Young Canadians show are spectacular and with 2012 being the 100 year celebration of the Stampede you can expect very special events. There are a number of pancake breakfasts going on throughout the city and the local bars are geared up with western themes. All ages of people are able to enjoy the Stampede.

With everything from the entertainment at Rope Square in the heart of downtown, to the grounds where all the action is, the Calgary Stampede never disappoints. We plan to make this an annual event.
