We stayed for 6 days in January on vacation with another couple. Fox Hotel was a great base for exploring Banff and heading slightly further afield to Lake Louise and other resorts.
There was always space in the underground parking garage - essential when it's snowing as no need to clear the car. The bus runs from right outside the hotel if you don't want to drive but want to go downtown or up the mountain to the Gondola or Upper Springs. Bus is free for Fox Hotel residents, just show your room key. Otherwise a walk downtown is only about 10 minutes - fine if you're wrapped up and the wind isn't too bad and a pleasant walk just past other hotels and lodges.
We had a standard room, which is slightly on the small side but no complaints about the facilities - good shower, nice bathroom, comfortable bed, sports channels and enough hanging space for all our outdoor clothes! Only slight downside was the noise from above - we were adjacent to a 2 storey apartment so naturally heard them going up and downstairs and walking around above. Not awful or really disruptive but noticeable.
Hot spring pool was a nice touch at the end of the day to warm up. Gym is very small, feels like a bit of an after thought! Not a problem if you're out and about skiing etc though.
Breakfast was nice but limited - it says continental but was actually more than that. Self made waffles were good.
In-hotel restaurant (Chilis) was average but as expected for a chain. Plenty of other great options available if you just head a few mins out of the hotel.
Staff at reception very helpful for directions and information about the area.

We stayed at the Fox for 4 nights on our journey around Canada. Lovely warm reception from the staff (and the open fire) where we were given free breakfast and bus vouchers which was great. Chilli's restaurant which was in the hotel was very nice and in a good location with very friendly service. Hot tub was lovely too.
We returned to this hotel after two days just for one night as we were catching the Rocky train from here and we were delighted to be upgraded to a suite!

Would definitely recommend staying here

Arriving early evening prior to catching the marvellous Rocky Mountaineer early the next morning, we did not have much time to experience Banff which is a pity based on what we did manage to see.

The Fox is a rustic sort of place, all exposed wood and a welcoming atmosphere. Reception was friendly and efficient and the room, whilst quite small was adequate for a one night stop. I don't think I would have liked to stay for a week.

The restaurant was in keeping with the rest of the hotel, friendly but not great food.

We had a suite with the bedroom down stairs for a family of 4. Staff were very friendly and help full beautiful hotel. Other than some dummy broke a glass in the hot tub and it hat to be drained and refilled can't say anything bad about the place. We will be back if we can get a room next time we visit.

My boyfriend and I planned a nice new years getaway at the fox hotel in banff British Columbia. We planned online and paid for our 3 night stay from December 30th to January 1st for 119$ a night. Sounded like an awesome deal. We got to the hotel and they couldn't find our reservation. They said we booked for January 30th to February 2nd. They couldnt accommodate us so we agreed that maybe some how we did book it wrong. They could only let us stay one night. We paid the same for 1 night that we were suppose to pay for all 3. We thought we would try to make the best of our 1 night holiday. The tv wasn't working in the room so I called the front desk to let them know. The girl said "uh is it plugged in" I was telling her that "yes it was" and I let her know that there was something green all over the shower curtain...but she cut me off and said "okay we can clean it tomorrow." I said "we are only staying 1 night" and she "said oh sorry then and hung up". Whatever we could do without tv. We started getting ready to go check out the hot tub and I stepped on something gross. It was an old shriveled up pickle. I looked around a bit after that and the bath tub was dirty there were crumbs on floor and something splashed on both head boards. This did not feel like a holiday at all and I am very disappointed. Not only did we take off work to get away and relax for new years but we will be leaving unsatisfied.
