Great location for walking. All the fun of camping without the tent wrangling! Can't wait to visit again.

“Great barn perfect for an outdoor getaway.”

The barn was perfect for out group of Ranger Guides, provided a camping style experience but without having to put up tents!
The barn is basic but that is its appeal. The wood burner is great if needed for the chillier nights.

“Get away from it all at this simple barn in a stunning location.”
Reviewed 10 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

Alstonfield Camping Barn provided the perfect location for our goup of 6 dads weekend away. We used it as a base for the weekend to do some short walks and bike rides and we weren't disappointed.

The accommodation is obviously basic with no mains gas or electricity, but this adds to the charm. It's a great place to get away from it all and ditch all the modern technology we have nowadays and get back to basics. But don't mistake this for being uncomfortable. There is easy access and you can comfortably park 3 cars next to the barn. The sleeping level is clean and dry and there was plenty of room. There's a good working tiolet and basin and a sink in the main room. I'd recommend making sure you have lots of warm layers as the temperature can drop at night. The main room is really cosy once you get the fire going and the candles lit. The first bundle of logs had been left for us FOC and also lots of Tea lights. I would recommend taking more logs or purchasing some whilst You are there if you wanted the fire going regularly. Also take lots of tea lights as you need a few to light the room but when they are all lit the room looks great.

There was plenty of room for the 6 of us for the weekend. We went to the local pub in Whetton for a meal one night which was great and cooked up meals on our camping stove in the Camping Barn for the rest of the trip.

The Barn is in a stunning location with fanatastic views across the Dales. We did 2 walks starting from the Barn. I recommend exploring Wolscote Dale. It's a stunning Valley with craggy Cliffs, Caves to explore and a beautiful river, easily as good as Dovedale but without the crowds. We also did a days cycling, taking in the Tissington Trail, High Peak Trail and Monsal Trail. It was a challenging route but we were rewarded with more stunning views and scenery. The Monsal Trail is a real Gem!

If you want a weekend away a bit out of the ordinary then book Alstonefield Camping Barn, you won't be disappointed.
