Have just been and celebrated my daughters 21st here with a meal, have visited before and ate amazing food so this was the place my daughter chose for her celebration.
As per usual, unbelievable food, most of us had steak, which was cooked to absolute perfection. I had the fillet steak on a bed of roasted veg and melted blue cheese on the top, an absolute explosion of taste in every bite! Each meal was served with fries and we had their speciality onion rings - well, onion shavings, so so tasty! Staff were absolutely lovely, couldn't fault them and they couldn't do enough to help. We were a group of 9 and all meals came out at the same time, piping hot. My mother-in-law is a bit picky when it comes to her food as she cooked for a living when she had her own business, now retired.
I was amazed to see her eat every bite of this meal, she loved it! She normally ends up leaving a lot of food as not up to her standards of cooking. There was nothing left on her plate - unheard of
Cannot thank the owner and chef Henk enough.
An amazing meal as usual cooked by him and the service from his lovely staff x

I was a bit apprehensive about the accommodation as the outside of The Halfway House and its outbuildings are not much to look at, however the bedroom we stayed in (Room 5) was comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. My husband and I really enjoyed our stay over four nights.

Plus points:
• FANTASTIC meals served in cosy restaurant by friendly staff. We asked to see the chef to tell him it was the best food out that we'd enjoyed in years (and we eat out often!)
• Excellent breakfast included and cooked to order with tea/coffee and 2 slices of toast each (cereals, croissants, juices, yoghurts etc also available)
• Machine in room for complimentary hot drinks (2 mugs, 2 glasses)
• Free bottled water in room
• Free home-baked shortbread biscuits left in room every day
• French doors onto decking enabling private rear access to/from parking area (not sure that every room has a window for ventilation, however)
• Huge and very comfortable bed (two 3ft mattresses I think)
• High quality white bed linen and duvet
• Plump pillows from The Fine Bedding Company
• Fluffy white towels
• Complimentary body wash and shampoo
• TV with remote
• Free wifi
• Location good for most routes and quiet at night

Negatives:
• 5 cushions on the bed and nowhere to put them except the floor (not keen on accessories which rarely get washed between guests)
• Small drawers in furniture so stiff some would not open

Suggestions for improvement:
• Hooks in bathroom for toilet bag and dressing gown
• Hooks in bedroom for wet coats, bags etc
• Decent sized chest of drawers as mostly hanging space
• Tourist information pack available for guests
• Ice bucket in room
• Tissues in room
• Full length mirror

Overall everything was very good and the surrounding countryside was lovely.

Room tip: Room 5 had a bathroom window which opens for ventilation

A lack lustre reception was not a good start . We were booked for lunch, 4 people and there was not exactly a warm welcome , nothing wrong but no smile. We felt a little uncomfortable . We were invited to choose a table "sit anywhere" . The menu looked quite interesting and our starters were good, goats cheese, and a chicken and chorizo salad. Mains however were disappointing, the hake was tasteless and there was nothing special about the so called special chips. We felt as though we were a bit of a nuisance. When asked for napkins our waitress dumped them all at my place without a word. She had no personality and no small talk. We do not feel inclined to return

Just got back from this pub and we're fuming. We booked for 4 but there was only 3 of us with an extra chair spare. During our meal our brother in law turned up with his girlfriend. We wanted them to join us but the staff could have been ruder and said it wasn't recommend adding a 5 seat though they just seated a couple in a table accommodating 6. Rude rude rude not going again!

Cannot recommend the food highly enough, first impressions not brilliant, Outside needs decorating and place empty when we arrived.
However staff friendly, and restaurant soon filled up and when the food arrived WOW !!

This is pub food at its best. Free amuse buche and homemade rosemary and garlic bread set the tone. I had crab, followed by the best belly pork served with perfect mustard mash mange tout and broccoli stems. Wife had delicious lamb.

Wine reasonably priced too. Breakfast perfectly cooked, porridge too if you ask,(We did)

Rooms clean, beds so comfy, and generous sized bathroom.

The Recently new Chef/Owner is making a good reputation here.

Dont be put off by the exterior, The pictures must have been taken on a suuny day. We were so glad we did not just keep driving past to find somewhere prettier despite having a reservation on Booking.com.

It was a bit farther out than I thought, but would recommend this place unreservedly.

Reason for visit was to Cycle The Camel Trail, from Padstow to Camel vineyard and back. Superb !!

Padstow was delightfull,(and full, of happy visitors like us)
Would recommend you walk out of harbour area to Lower Beach and beyond, where The estuary views and across to Rock are among the best I have seen, (and we live on the Devon coast) Especially at Low tide.
