“Just what we needed”
Reviewed 5 February 2014 for a stay in July 2013

From the friendly summer buzz in the streets of the small Sicilian town of Casteldaccia, I passed through an ancient portal into a self-contained paradise. My husband and I were welcomed by the cooling shade of a rich garden and the smiling and warm hospitality of the owners, Maria and Riccardo.
We settled on two floors of an ancestral home, enhanced with the most modern facilities, embellished by beautiful mosaics of bright Mediterranean colours, thanks to the artistry of Riccardo.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Upstairs they opened onto a balcony overlooking the garden, while downstairs they were shaded by a porch, furnished with a dining set and loungers. The large laid-back kitchen is a charming fusion of times gone with the comforts of modern appliances.
Altogether, the unspoiled atmosphere in which to eat and relax in peace. Certainly, at the end of a busy day of sightseeing, the ideal place where to enjoy a glass of wine enveloped in the velvety Sicilian summer night. The garden below is luxuriant, with beautiful palms, other exotic plants and lush flowery bushes.
The location is very convenient for easily reaching the most important tourist sights. A nice not overcrowded beach can be reached in a few minutes by car.

“We really enjoyed the stay with Maria and Riccardo at their wonderful villa”
Reviewed 5 February 2014 for a stay in September 2013

My daughter Francesca and I spent a week at this magic place in the heart of Casteldaccia. The garden is fabulous and the house is intimate and full of creative touches. A lovely retreat in a small pleasant corner of Sicily.

“My first contact with Maria told me that we were renting the right place.”
Reviewed 4 February 2014 for a stay in July 2013

My wife and I stayed here July 8-18, 2013. My first contact with Maria told me that we were renting the right place. Her voice was warm and welcoming, willing to answer even the silliest questions from a worried traveller. The welcome my wife and I received upon our arrival was indeed as warm as the sun that day. We wanted to rent something different, not the usual anonymous box, and we were not disappointed. The large garden right inside the entrance was full of surprises, with all sorts of flowers, plants and fruit trees. Then, as we climbed to our top floor along a wrought-iron staircase, we were delighted with new sights. At the top, we entered an intimate living room plus eating area on suite with the kitchen. The big surprise was the outside covered terrace, airy and cheerful, with easy chairs and sofas, an outdoor barbecue, and an eating area. We spent a lot of time reading, breakfasting and lunching in this marvellous space. Our own room was bright, with light pouring in from two screened-in windows and a view well worth the climb. It was very clean and decorated with colours and pictures of Sicily. The bed was comfortable and the air-conditioner very welcomed in hot nights. The bathroom was tastefully finished in tiles decorated with sea motifs, done by Maria’s husband, Riccardo. The place was near the piazza where we had the most marvellous gelato. Shops and restaurants are all nearby. The free beaches are reached either on foot (15 min.) or by car. Casteldaccia is centrally located along Sicily’s North coast, with a fast highway connecting it to Palermo and Messina, and all points in between. An easy drive also to the ferries that took us to the Aeolian Islands. One final word on Maria and Riccardo: we could not have wished for better hosts, full of life, always willing to suggest places to visit, and forever ready to share a glass of wine and a stimulating conversation. Along the way, they also taught us some Sicilian dishes. Thank you, Maria and Riccardo. We shall return!

“Great property for large group.”
Reviewed 15 January 2014 for a stay in December 2013

We had a fun week in Sicily staying in Casteldaccia. The house was large and suited our group of 11. The 4 bath/shower rooms meant that there were no queues! The kitchen was charming and we cooked and enjoyed some lovely meals there. Weather was mixed over New Year but we hired a minibus and travelled around the island. Enjoyed basking in the sun on the patio many mornings. The bedrooms were for the most part quiet. The single on the first floor faces the road and it was noisy however. The terrace upstairs has fantastic views of the countryside around. Family home with a lot of antique furniture typical of Sicily. Would have liked a little more comfort in the lounge- perhaps some softer chairs. We used the dvd player some nights and managed to bring some of the furniture in from the patio. Was a little cold in the evenings so we had to use the aircon/heaters. The house is situated just down the road from the main (small) square and it's bakery and shops. The supermarket was just around the corner and was well stocked. Would recommend hiring a vehicle at this time of year because a few of the restaurants were closed for the winter and we needed to travel further afield. We visited Cafe 113 and La Rotunda before we flew home. They are by the sea. A 10-15min steep walk downhill from the house. Both restaurants were fantastic. It was a shame Cafe 113 wasn't open New Year's eve and La Rotunda wasn't open until the day we flew home. We drove into Palermo for meals out and found the proximity of the highway into town a bonus. Our designated drivers were brave to face the unusual antics of Sicilian road users! We also travelled further afield towards Mount Etna and finally Taormina. There are many lovely sights in Sicily and as a holiday destination it has a lot to offer. This house too is a good base for a large group affording privacy and plenty of communal space.

“Feels like it's your own home in Sicily”
Reviewed 19 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

One of the best self-catering properties we have ever stayed in, and tremendous value for money. It's not a 'luxury holiday villa'. This is a lovely, spacious, home, comfortable, well equipped - everything works - and full of interest. The enormous shady garden is marvellous.

Casteldaccia is not really a resort, so don't go looking for night-life there. It's a busy, working town, with useful shops and street vendors (selling great food) and such friendly people, and it's a fine centre for touring, with easy access to the autostrata, and to the railway if you want to visit Palermo.

One special pleasure was being able to wander up to the square at around nine in the evening for a cake or (my favourite) a pistachio ice cream, and eat it at a table in the open air, along with a coffee or a beer. You can't do that in Newcastle in October!

Everything Maria's description says is true: if it's free when you want it, book right away. If it isn't, change your holiday dates and then book it.
