Description: Hotel Juaninos' La Azotea Restaurant is famed for its dazzeling close-up views of the cathedral, amazing by day and magnificently illuminated at night. In a stylish setting of modern decor, the atmosphere is casual and service is welcoming and caring. La Azotea Restaurant specializes in contemporary Mexican gastronomy with a fusion of Michoacan's own regional cuisine. Our menu of the day presents culinary delights that evoke nostalgia because they are based on precious traditional recipes of our ancestors. There is an extensive selection of Mexican and imported wines. A private dining room seating up to 20 persons is available for special events such as weddings or business meetings. The restaurant is open from 8 am to 11 pm daily.

The food was good, the maitre d' wasn't. We had reserved a table by the window in hopes of seeing the Easter procession. The maitre d' insisted we had not and would only seat us at the back of the room, even though there were 6 empty tables by the windows. My companion refused to be bullied and kept insisting he talk to the woman who had taken our reservation. When he finally did, she confirmed our window reservation, and we were seated. But the fight certainly diminished our enjoyment of the meal.

This restaurant is on the 3rd (top) floor of a hotel across the square from the Cathedral. There’s a nice outdoor area for drinks and inside there are tables arranged along floor to ceiling windows affording a wonderful view of the Cathedral especially when it’s lit up at night.

We both ordered the trout. Mine breaded and my wife’s in a white wine sauce. Both were excellent. The wine list is limited but we ordered a Chilean blend with the perfect tartness to pair with the fish. BTW if you’re a bread nut like me you’ll really like their bread. There’s a nice feel to the place because tables are arranged in two rows parallel with the windows with a wide aisle in between the rows. Our servers were very professional but somewhat aloof. Washrooms often say a lot about the professionalism of the staff and management and the washrooms at La Azotea with their upscale décor, cleanliness and available amenities tells me these folks are very serious about being a first class establishment. Highly recommended.

I have always had excellent service, great food and a good selection of, in my case, white wine. I highly recommend it.

Our hotel recommended this restaurant and we had an excellent meal. The staff was very good and the food was also. The view of the illuminated cathedral alone is worth a visit

The food was good, out waiter was very distracted and all over the place. We were looking forward because of the reviews and location. Almost at the end of our meal a very foul penetrating smell of sewage started seeping in, about 3 tables left at the same time because of it. They have a decent selection of wine, would of stayed for more if weren't for the heinous smell!
