Description: Nestling in the heart of Branscombe, one of Britain's most picturesque villages, is the award winning, 14th Century, The Masons Arms. This charming thatched Inn dates back to 1350 - a cider house turned country pub - and the men who cut the stone for Exeter Cathedral drank here, hence the name. With only a leisurely ten minute stroll to Branscombe Beach, The Masons Arms offers an ideal base to escape the stresses of modern life and enjoy the magical vista of sea, beaches and the spectacular walks offered by the ninety five miles of Devon and Dorset's Jurassic Coast. The authentic interiors ooze character with timber frames, low beamed ceilings, pine cladding, whitewashed walls and a huge roaring log fire. Our award winning Restaurant offers an exciting and creative menu in relaxed fine dining surroundings. The Masons Arms kitchen brigade are dedicated to sourcing the very best of local Dartmoor produce. The cooking is classy yet simple, perfect for a special meal or relaxing Country lunch. We serve as many as six locally brewed bitters and the finest wines from around the world. The 21 bedrooms at the Masons Arms Branscombe, are cosy, stylish and inviting, blending comfort with character. The Masons Arms has been awarded a FOUR STAR rating under the Inn category by Quality in Tourism.

We have previously stayed there and the Inn was very comfortable. We went again this week and had a wonderful lunch. A five star rating although the welcome and service left room for improvement.
The Brandscombe lobster and fish stew with River Fowey mussels (the River Exe mussels were spawning) were great as were the fish cakes and the dressed crab starter. Well worth a visit if they keep this chef.

We found some of the evening meal choices underwhelming. No pork or chicken dishes of note - in fact no pork at all. Quite expensive for a village pub.

We have stayed here before and we will no doubt again the room was wonderful a little warm as it was over the kitchen however with the open windows the night was good and the kitchen closes early so by bed time all was quite, just a couple of suggestions I would suggest that breakfast starts earlier as every one comes down at the opening time and the staff have to rush around quite a bit, also would suggest to sweep the out side area as some of those who are slobs think it is acceptable to throw their cigarette buts on the floor and not into the considerable amount of ashtrays that are there a message to the slobs IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. We go to Devon 3/4 times a year and will stay at the Masons again.

We have visited a number of times for lunch, this is the first time we have visited for dinner. We were disappointed on this occasion. The duck was lovely, though the portion not over sized. The crumble came tepid, but was tasty. The staff were helpful and pleasant, though a little training on how to clear tables properly would not come amiss.

Tried to have lunch here but the staff were so rude we walked into Beer and had a wonderful meal there instead. We would gladly have walked further to not give the Masons Arms our custom
