La Suerte del Coyote is an open air Mexican restaurant down towards the end past the strip of shops that make up Tulum/Punta Allen.

We stayed at Del Rosa Viento hotel which is passed the main block of resorts. There aren't many restaurants on that end and our hotel serves Italian food! So a short walking distance we found this place.

They are delicious, authentic, make their own Mezcal, and serve fresh fish caught right out of the waters right to your plate. They are priced pretty close to what you'd pay in America, maybe slightly less. On this strip, you can't expect to get food priced super cheaply like in the rest of Mexico.

It has a great atmosphere, dimly lit and just plain cool. The food is so delicious!! The waitress was super nice.

They don't take Visa, cash only but better to pay with Pesos but they will take USD as well.

Looks lovely and inviting.. don't let it fool you! We ordered two margaritas - (we know what a margarita should taste like) this wasn't one,too sweet.. not sure if there was even tequila init! Onto the starters a traditional Mexican corn dish - expecting fresh toasted corn - it was canned corn they had warmed up with a blob of chilli mayo in it! Simply awful. My fiancé had a steak - it was a grey slither of chewy meat plonked on a plate with a handful of fries, and finally a traditional bean tortilla dish . It was soggy and tasteless I couldn't eat it or my fiancé (who eats most things) we returned it. so disappointed the bill - they charged for everything with no apology and then! Charged 15% of total bill for service! Even on the returned dish! Never have I experienced such bad food and to bill us for all of it ! Words can't describe

So we were looking for a restaurant close to where we were staying and we tried Coyote. The sign said open at 3 and food would be served starting at 4. We sat down at 3:15 and ordered a few beer and waited, had a look at the menu and decided what we would like. While we were waiting the staff asked us what music we liked and we said Spanish music. They proceeded to put on American pop rock. Why did they ask us anyways? So we decided what we wanted to eat and then our server informed that the menu that we had been given was not the right one so we had to choose again. We were given confusing info on what was available from the new menu. It turned out that meat and chicken were the only things available. We ordered chicken (it arrived at 5:15 much later than 4:00)and it was very plain and dry. When our bill came it was 400 pesos over what we had ordered. She explained that the tip was included. 400 peso tip for a 500 Peso bill!!! Outrageous! I payed the bill for the food leaving no tip. I have been to the Yucatan 4 times in the last two years, I speak Spanish moderately well and have eaten in many restaurants and this place was the worst by far. Do not eat here.

I really wanted to like this place. It's a great atmosphere and location but was insanely overpriced for mediocre food. Really mediocre. I ordered esquites and it was canned corn, absolutely crazy for Mexico, and extremely expensive. The food took at least 30-40 minutes to come out. The drinks were only so-so and very expensive. The staff was really nice and apologetic but it was pretty disappointing (considering it wasn't even that full). Too bad.
