Fantastic room with rooftop tub and immediate beach access. The staff and food at Ziggy's was exceptional. They offered tequila tastings, yoga, spa services and we helpful arranging day trips with reputable companies. There were a number of volunteers monitoring the turtle nests and we got to witness a couple hatchings. Despite the sargassum, the beach was still lovely and the hotel took care to remove as much as they could for both the turtles' and humans' benefits. We will definitely return!

Dear Kelly,

Greetings from Tulum and thank you for your exceptional review on our Hotel!! We are proud to have been your first Tulum experience, and that we were able to comply with your expectations!
Thank you for mentioning the rooms, the staff and food at Ziggy's - tequila tasting is a big favorite :), and the customer service provided by our staff! Thank you also for mentioning the efforts we make daily to clean the beach both for our our guests and, as you pointed our, for the baby turtles!

We look forward to having you again as our guests soon!

This was our second stay at the beach tulum. Everything was as perfect as the first year. The staff at the front desk were incredibly sweet and helpful, christoble immediately helped us with out bags and was so cute when he took us up to our room, he told us to close our eyes for a surprise which was rose petals and a bottle of champagne. The food at ziggys is always amazing, so fresh and healthy, soothes the tummy after a night of tequila. Barbara and Felipe are not only amazing bartenders but they are just great to sit around and have a chat. I'm always so sad to say goodbye to Barbara, she's truly such a special person. The water in the room was a nice touch this year. The room is very basic but that is what makes it so pretty, my boyfriend is 6'7 and you could put two of him in the enormous bath!! It's definitely a shame tulum got hit with the seaweed but every morning at sunrise the hotel has some of their extremely polite staff out racking it away. I love to travel and I am normally not one to go to the same place multiple years in a row, but the beach tulum is different. We are already excited for our next trip to paradise :)

love,
brent and kate

The hotel is very nice: small, well-maintained, charming, and clean. All twenty rooms face the ocean and are right on the beach. They are spacious, clean, and basic but perfect for a low-key beach vacation. Bathroom is large with a great rain shower and separate toilet space.
As for customer service, I personally do not measure it in terms of friendly bartenders. For a boutique hotel at this price point, customer service requires improvement: it needs to be responsive and efficient. We had problems with our room and requested to be changed: the front desk was unapologetic and slow to provide an answer. Then, we requested to extend the check out time from noon to 1 pm. We asked four times over two days and finally at noon [when we were about to leave the room], we were told we could stay until 12.30. When we checked in, we were asked if we were celebrating something special: yes, my husband's birthday. I guess the front desk person asked out of curiosity because there was no gesture [not even a note or a chocolate] for the event. The devil is in the details. And these details are not small. They are extremely important in an intimate hotel where guests expect a personalized and responsive treatment that is different from the inefficient and standardized customer service usually provided in big chain hotels .
There is also a problem of business ethics: right now, Tulum's beaches, gorgeous as they are, are unusable. There are tons of seaweed that makes getting into the water impossible and the odor is terrible. This is not your occasional seaweed accumulation, this is above knee-high accumulation. The hotel does not inform about this situation on its website. If I take a beach vacation, I want to enjoy the beach. What would you say if you get to a sky resort and there is no snow? Even when informed, most people would go ahead with their vacation for several reasons but the hotel has the responsibility and obligation to inform about the situation. On top of it, the front desk staff suggested a beach outside town that was supposedly clean: we drove 10 minutes, they charged us close to 10 dollars each, the beach was as bad as the one at the hotel, and the 1980s beach club run-down beach club setting was depressing. They were honest enough to reimburse our money when we left five minutes after paying.
Finally, the breakfast at Ziggy's is full of options.
All in all, I think that The Beach has potential to be the boutique hotel it promises to be but for that, it needs to rethink customer service to make it what it should be: efficient and caring.

Dear Guest,

thank you for your review and comments. First of all, we want to apologize for the lack of attention to details. We have always been known for the exact opposite, we put a lot of work in trying to know our guests’ needs and desires in order to make their stay as comfortable as possible. We are truly sad it was not the case with your stay. We have had two members of front desk staff leave recently with no advance notice and the new girls are still learning. This is no excuse, we just want you to know that usually our standards are much higher. For the late check out, the reason it was not confirmed was because we didn’t know at what time the next guests would arrive. You should have been told, it was as simple as that.

As for the seaweed, we do not publish updates on our web page as the situation is constantly changing, but we do answer our clients when they write to ask about it. Seaweed has decreased dramatically over the past few days, so we hope the situation has changed for good.

Gracias, we hope you’ll be back for another visit.

If you are thinking Playa, then go Playa; if you want eco-chic (whatever that is), go to Tulum. If you go to Tulum, stay here. Given that everyone is dealing with seaweed, there is no controlling that. So, what would you want? Excellent service? A pool that is lagoon-style, relaxing, and right next to the bar? If yes, then Beach Tulum is your place.

Barbara and Felipe are amazing bartenders. The former speaks great English, while the latter can mix drinks with the best of them (I recommend, for the brave, the cucumber-jalapeno tequila drink). Ultimately, both greet you everyday, all day and are just so nice.

Silvi and Isabel are the concierge (and, basically everything). They also speak great English and helped us figure out everything. Whether it was going to Chichen Itza and then Coba, or helping us figure out restaurants, they were brilliant. And, also willing to chat if you had nothing to do.

Edith was our waitress in Ziggy's. She was awesome, as were the whole staff.

I agree that cold bottled water would have been a great extra, but I was able to get that whenever I asked nicely anyway! We also got matches from the front desk, just by asking.

We also managed to meet a bunch of other guests, and they were all really nice (some of whom we've already connected with via social media). So, if you want posh go to Cancun. If you want relaxing and a great experience, hit the Beach.

Room Tip: Do the Superior Rooms instead of the deluxe. The latter was great, but the former from what we have heard, are worth the extra money.

All of the reviews are pretty spot on. Staff are lovely. Barbara + Filepe at the bar are awesome. AC is only on at night (I actually found that it got too cold during the night) Ziggy's food is not so amazing etc etc. The hammock on the balcony was delicious.

As much as we enjoyed our 8 night stay, after some investigations of other hotels, my husband + I could not see the value in the room rate. There are other hotels in the hotel zone that are far more premium and are either similar priced or slightly less expensive. The bikes are also quite expensive ($15USD per day).

A note to all of those who are travelling to Tulum in the near future, please check the seaweed invasion issue before you depart. The beaches were heavily covered in seaweed (which most resorts tried to clear daily) and the water was so full of seaweed that the waves could not really break properly. Of the 9 days we spent in Tulum, we could only venture into the water 2 days and we had to travel about a 25 min walk south of The Beach to find clear enough water to get into.
