We stayed in the Riveria adults section, and it was lovely. The room was excellent, the pool was great, and the pool bar staff were fantastic.
We were the furthest away from the beach, but the walk was only 10 minutes and should not be a problem for most people! The restaurants were very good, the buffet was ok too, but we prefered to eat in the other restaurants, the Oriental restuarant was amazing, as was the french. The only problem we had in these was the red wine was served cold, and the staff did not realise that this was a problem for people who know and enjoy red wine - it should normally served room temperature
The only thing I did not enjoy was the plastic glasses served in the main bar in the evening.

Room Tip: Riveria section are spacious, and very comfortable.

This was our third to visit to Sandos Playacar. For the price and quality of service at this hotel we keep coming back even though we keep saying we are going to try somewhere new the following year. For the price this place is a 5*. We just came back on March the 9th, there were 11 people in our group. Once again we stayed in the Riviera Section as we like it because it is newer, it is about a 7 minute walk to the pools and restaurants, but it's a very pretty landscaped walkway. We spoke to guests that stayed in the hotel section which is at the beach and many commented the rooms were older and much noisier area in the evening . In three years we have noticed that the property mgmt really does take visitor comments seriously and makes the suggested changes. The hotel is clean and the food at the buffets and restaurants are all very good, no one will starve here, in 3 yrs no one in our group has ever gotten sick. The hotel is a very family friendly hotel, if you are a couple with no children or are annoyed by children splashing in a pool then pay the extra and go to an adult only resort. Word of warning, this hotel probably has 25% of guests that are French Canadians, no offence but there is probably 5%-10% of those French Canadian guests that give canadians a bad reputation for being rude and arrogant, and in 3 yrs it never failed we continue to here words between the french canadians and other guests about the silliest things. Your on vacation relax. Overall hotel continues to be excellent and the management will try to help with any of your requests if they can. In this hotel we have never heard "NO P POSSIBILE. Overall very clean, very friendly, great food, great variety of drinks even international alcohol at the bars, you won't be disappointed visiting here.

Room Tip: if you don't mind the short walt approx. 6-7 minutes to the beach stay in the Riviera Section 800 building. New and very clean.

We stayed in Febuary 2012 .the place was clean and .staff very friendly.Book your speciality restraunts as soon as possible. The Buffets are ok nothing special. Houdini the bar tender in the labomba was great always happy and he always knew what we drank last .I always got my wife pepsi light and ice in her cup. the first time she went up to the bar with her cup he knew exactly what she wanted..the rooms were very clean and the refrigerator was always stocked with what we asked for. While we were gone a representative was in the twincity area . Our travel agent yourtimetotravel said i have people there and you better take care of them.
we recieved a fruit basket and chocolate covered strawberries.I went diving with divetilus and on the second dive I lost my weight belt which cost me $96. I tried to tell the dive guide I lost it right away but I could not communicate well enough with him or he did not care enough to go back and get it That was the only bad part of the trip.Beach was great pools clean and two miles from town.

the hotel, around the hotel and working staff(house keeping, table staff, chefs, maintenance) were great .The food ,beach, pool and the sun was good .The problem lies in the details, make sure you ask questions of the management, front desk and guest services they always say no problem until there is a problem they play the old shell game. Of the 6 La Carte restaurant on site, one was closed for the full stay and as many as 3 at any given time were closed. We were unable to make reservation(full) and when we did ask we were told we should have decided that the first day we arrived, to book for the week . we found others with the same problem.Face towels and hand towels were not always put in the room, had to ask .we had one bar of soap last just until the last day then new one left and the shower soap dispenser was not refilled, almost empty, used the shampoo for body soap.
Some of our groups mini bar was not stocked when we arrived or restocked on daily basis. One couple had several room problems, never resolved .
New policy came into affect while we were on site ,unattended beach/pool chairs after half hour your belongs removed so others can use.I seen this happen but then i think we the quests made complaints ,i never seen that again . they should buy more chairs
If you need to stay in your room past check out time be prepared to pay extra, I have never had a problem like this before , they admitted they were not busy but to bad, pay.
Outside tours ask lots of questions, travel time is always just 15 minutes or so NO not the case hours. make sure you understand details make sure they tell you. Sea turtles trip is NOT from a boat you have to swim out almost a kilometer to see them and to start the tour they take you to a cave(nice under water cave) on a road that only a 4X4 should go,if you can not handle rough travel or long swims do not go. I know one couple asked and received some money back.
in conclusion we will never book a Sandos hotel again or partner hotel . Too many other better hotels in the area for the same or less money.

This was a very amazing holiday. Initially we were booked into the sister hotel caracol but as it was overbooked we were asked to transfer to the Sandos Playacar and were given an elite upgrade. Simply fabulous! The only reason I didn't give a five was that our bathroom leaked from the shower onto the floor everyday and then the added moisture fogged up the windows and dampened the bedding. They couldn't seem to correct the problem. This hotel would not take tips even if left with a note and some treats on your pillow!

As we have travelled many times to Mexico, times have certainly changed. Be sure to use your safe anywhere you travel especially in Mexico and the Dominican. Make sure to take you money, ID and jewelry in your carry on both ways.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper pool room. Further from the beach but definitely quieter. The french resturant was very nice and great food. Book early.
