We just got back from 5 nights in the deluxe room. It was a great location, opening right up onto the sand with a full view. The room was kept very clean daily. The front desk staff was very polite and helpful. The bar connected to the hotel was sometimes very good with service, and other times we had to wait a long time to be waited on. The food was very good though. Part of the beach, along with beach loungers and umbrellas, is reserved for hotel guests, this is very nice. They do offer bar service to your chairs, but we were not waited on once while on the beach. This was not a real big deal, as we don't normally drink on the beach. The security guy, Santiago, was a sweet man--tip him well! He would go out of his way to get you anything you needed. The bed was very soft with the extra mattress topper we requested. The small kitchenette had a few dishes, a microwave, frig and coffee pot and toaster. The bathroom was large. now the cons: There is no comfortable place to sit in the room except for the bed. The chairs that are with the table are hard, even with the small cushions on them. The two patio chairs have no cushions at all. My husband did not feel well for a day, and we spent it in the room, and I really missed having a soft chair. The room locks with a key, and you have to use the key to lock the door at night. The bad side is, if you don't have your key, you cannot get out of the room! Our last night we were packing and we lost power for 2 hours! We could not find where we had sat our key so we were locked in our room and could not go to the front desk to ask for a flash light or anything. God forbid there was a fire in the room! I tried to take a bath the first night and the water would not turn on in the tub. That was not a big deal, I just took showers the whole 5 days. If you want a gorgeous view room and don't mind not having a real comfy place to sit, this is a great room. I would stay here again, and maybe ask for pillows to put on the chairs!

Room tip: This is the best room for a great view

We stayed at Hotel Playa Arena for the 4th time in May and it was great, as always! Every time we go, it is better than the last time! We stayed in the Principal room (the one in the picture behind the palapa) and, even though we thought it was near perfect the last time we stayed there, they had still made improvements. The grounds are beautiful and the addition of a wooden deck for the restaurant area was very nice. All of the hotel staff are friendly and will do whatever they can to make your trip an enjoyable one! We had great service, food and drinks from the restaurant/bar and really like that hotel guests have one side of the beach area that is not as crowded as some places. The location is awesome – right on the beach, but very close to all the bars and restaurants in town. All in all, a great place that we will return to year after year and will continue to recommend to our friends!

We stayed in rooms 4 & 5 which although not adjoining were secluded away from the others, and each had a balcony looking straight out to the sea. The hotel staff were always friendly and welcoming, even offering the loan of an umbrella when it rained. Breakfast was not included in the tariff, but this actually was lovely. You could choose to eat at the beach bar (open from 7am) but it also meant we often ambled out to try other places. The location was perfect. Right on the Playa Norte to enjoy the atmosphoere, but hotel only loungers meacning that our bit of the beach was much less crowded than the public beach. Loads of shops and restaurants within easy walking, and close to the dive centre we used (Seahawk divers).

Room tip: The beach is noisy during the day but quiet at night. I wanter a room directly fronting the sea and we had 4 & 5, 1st floor.

My husband and I stayed at Playa Arena in early June and originally were booked to stay four nights in the Bahia Junior suite. The hotel is ideally located within walking distance to many restaurants and nightlife and is situated directly on the beach to allow for relaxation during the day. The grounds are beautiful, and made for a peaceful retreat to enjoy lounging on the balcony. The staff was wonderful and provided exceptional service. The following individuals deserve special recognition for their hospitality: Jose (on nights), Cristian and Gloria (housekeeping), Damian (front desk) and Valentino (beach service). My husband summarized our trip best, when he said that this is the first time that he has truly felt like he was on vacation. He was 100% relaxed and even decided to stay for an extra night! He is also planning for us to return later this year or early next year!! Thank you Playa Arena!

Additionally, I was so impressed that I will be traveling back in October with a group of girlfriends and will be staying in the same suite (I LOVE the Bahia Junior Suite). I can't wait for them to experience all that is Playa Arena.

Room tip: Bahia Junior Suite is on the second floor and consists of two adjoining rooms. It is very quiet and located near reception.

Just steps from Playa Norte, Playa Arena offers rooms with privacy that makes you feel like you are in your own private cabana. The beach was quiet and beautiful and the rooftop pool was beautiful to watch the sunset. Damian and his staff were clearly outstanding and accommodating. They welcomed us like family. I highly recommend the family suite as it includes a kitchen. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance and even a grocery store. Plenty to do with tours and activities. Highly recommend renting a golf cart and touring around town. We had a fantastic time and will be going back again!
