My husband & I stayed at Ixchel from 3/24/2010 - 3/31/2010 and it was absolutely wonderful!! The staff was very friendly & helpful. It’s right on the best beach (Playa Norte) in Isla & just down the street from great restaurants on Hidalgo Avenue. We try going to Isla once a year & this was our first time at Ixchel, but it won’t be our last. The only problems we had was that the bed was very hard & pillows were lumpy but we managed to get over it & enjoy our stay. As far as the music…we didn’t hear anything. And for the lighting, it takes a few minutes for the bulbs to warm up so be patient if it’s not bright as soon as you turn it on. One piece of advice, upon checkout make sure to review the charges. We ordered lunch every day from the beach restaurant, Como No, and they accidentally put someone else’s pay slip in our file so we were almost charged $215 USD, good thing my husband caught it. We pretty much go to Isla just to unwind. We spend all day at the beach & this place is perfect for it. All in all, we will definitely be visiting IBH again!!

We found this place to be all that we needed. Impressively clean with wonderful staff. Pillows and bed were hard; but nothing that we wouldn't do again. For our first trip to Mexico we did get bad "inbound" and "outbound" advice. A tip for the novice: Inbound: bag the timeshare talk, try to negotiate the best rate to your destination (ours was the ferry). Outbound: do not let the hotel book a taxi for you... We did, and prepaid it also and the taxi was not there so we had to come up with more money, hire another service and end the trip with anxiety about making our flight. I do hope the IBH will credit back our prepayment for this as they said they would after I got ugly with them on the phone (an expensive cell call, I'm sure). Now we know.

Our teen was assigned a book to read over break. When we turned on the lights in spartanly furnished "living" room after sundown, they cast the dimmest and most ghastly light we've ever experienced anywhere in the world. We had to beg housekeeping to find a lamp, then a table on which to put it. It still barely lit the room. We arrived during an unusual chilly spell, so were pleased that we had a hot tub; however, it didn't work. We managed to change rooms - same "furnishings" but the tub performed. The patio doors rattled so loudly in the breeze that our collapsible couch (NOT a sofa bed!) sleeper couldn't get or stay asleep. Spend a few more dollars and stay somewhere else.

We stayed in PH709 for our anniversary. It looked exactly like the pictures that were posted. I was recovering from surgery so we spent a lot of time there. Kitchen had everything we needed and more. Bed was very comfy. Hard time sleeping our last night because of music next door but not the bed or hotels fault. Staff was excellent always cleaning, painting ect.. The best part was the wrap around balconey with the hot tub. The weather was unusually cool & windy so it came in handy. The patio furniture was sturdy and comfortable not that plastic stuff you see in many places. The owners took great care in furnishing this place. We didn't use the pool or beach but was always very clean.

So when we arrived they didn't have our reservation even though i had a printout confirming it. They put us in a room with double beds even though we requested a king. The pillows were really clumpy, like all the cotton had gathered together into small areas and the room was quite sparse with furniture. How the room is decorated is dependent on the owner of the room. Because there are owners to each room, you will never get upgraded without paying more because then it is more money out of the hotels pocket (they pay the owners a rental fee according to the size of the room). We had to switch rooms during our stay and the second room was about the same as the other one except it had a king sized bed. The layout of the rooms were quite peculiar. Overall it wasn't a bad experience but it wasn't phenomenal. The beach was spectacular though. Also there is no need to take a taxi ride to the hotel. It is only a few blocks away from the dock. One other thing that was bad was that you could hear everything and anything in those rooms. Really shotty construction job. On Friday, the hotel handed out pieces of paper saying sorry for the club music that you would hear over the weekend and offered ear plugs. We didn't hear any club music, but we were woken up by other people in the morning and then also the hotel does not have do not disturb signs so at 9am expect your room to be cleaned. Despite my negative comments it is one of the better hotels on the island and I would come back.
