Went there for our honeyweek.. we spent three amazing nights in this unique environment surrounded by the reef and the ocean. We had a great villa by the reef with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The amenities were fine and very quiet. Great pool in the middle of hotel for night swimming. The beach at night was something unique.. clear and crystal. In the morning it was pure heaven. Buffet was very nice and on friday they did outdoor buffet which was great. Breakfast also nice and all day drinks and food.. you need to visit this hidden paradise and you ll make a lifetime memory. Highly recommended!!!!

Very fun, clean, and AMAZING hotel and island! Mia Reef is awesome and all inclusive (pretty sure they have a non-all inclusive option but that would be silly because the drinks are strong and plentiful and the food is abundant and awesome!!!!!) The hotel is not a 5 star Hilton or Ritz and has minor cons but it didn't bother me and I thought it was perfect!!! The daily entertainment was great! Yesica led us on a snorkeling tour and Jose Rojo was amazing too! We snorkeled, kayaked, played beach volleyball, played bingo, karaoke, entertainment night with professional dancers, biked, participated in fun couples contests and more!

I would suggest getting some pesos to spend for the taxi to and from the ferry (about $3 USD) or you can walk but we preferred not to with luggage and lazy on vacay. Also, use pesos to venture off and rent a golf cart to see the island, visit the turtles ($3) and see ruins and buy souvenirs or check out one of the bars with swings as the chairs . I think we would've saved a little bit if we didn't overpay with USD but not completely necessary. We brought mostly all $1s and $5s because my friend told me to since they rarely have change and good for tipping and that was a great tip!

The Las Marias is a fancier restaurant which you need to make a reservation (same day from 9am-2pm) for either 6pm or 8:30pm seating. It's okay and a nice change but the buffet and the seafood lunch option and snack bar is awesome!

We sat through a demonstration where they talked about the time share thing and they were NOT pushy and we did it at 8:30am and received beers when we asked and afterwards we got a 50 min couples massage on the ocean for free!!!! (Don't do the special romance dinner option, I heard that wasn't all that great).

Ah, well I can go on and on and if you don't need 7 star service than this is the place! The rooms are clean and there's all the amenities I needed!!! You can swim in the pool or the Caribbean and you can walk for about a half mile out and its just amazing! The shower sometimes didn't get cold and sometimes it was too hot. I didn't mind that really and don't think it is was a big deal. Some workers don't speak the best English (they will call over someone if they don't understand but that is rare) but all you need to know is "una cerveza por favor" lol. If you need something the front desk will give it to you. Drinking is from 10am- 11:30pm. We didn't have a problem with that because there's beer in our room fridge and we were definitely passed out before 11:30pm EVERY night!!! LOL.

We stayed for six nights and had an amazing time. The view from our balcony on the fifth floor were amazing! The staff was very attentive and made us feel welcomed. The hotel sits on it's own island and the waters are just beautiful. Some of the suites need some upbringing and the decor seems a bit outdated, they are doing some work and hope that they modernize some of the suites. The room we got on the main hotel fifth floor was fantastic and love the decor. Needs more fun activities for kids, maybe building a small water park. We are definitely returning and bringing the kids next time. Hope by then the cabañas are fully done and complete.

I spent a week in Mia Reef in mid November 2016. It was a kind of windy, but rain was only two times ~ for an hour. Water area around the hotel became quite shallow, less than 3 feet. New coffee room is great. Staff is friendly and helpful. Reconstruction of villas is almost finished. Resort was 100% full. Main restaurant was overcrowded in dinner time ~7 pm, on half of week days, when second restaurant did not work. Hard to find a free table, easy to find empty trays of the buffet. Not comfortable, as before. Owner of the resort plans to build new private bungalows on water, which might make the disbalance between number of restaurant seats and number of guests even worse. Not to mention that trade mark of Mia Reef - wooden pier and ample ocean flora and fauna around it most likely will be damaged.

Room tip: Villas are a little more expensive, but are more comfortable and quite than rooms in the main building.

Does not have free breakfast. No wifi in room. No hot tub/jacuzzi. Stayed at Villa. Remodeling 4 villas during stay, but only during day. No hot water till asked two times. Have to go to bar to get ice, no ice bucket. We picked up a hot plate in town for 160 p and cooked own food. Went to Rubens a short walk for some meals. Hotel has free bikes and Kayaks. Great beach for kids sandy and shallow. Pool not cleaned daily. Clear and cool but trash on bottom. Service generally ok. Provide plates and mugs but no silverware. Walls thin, noisy neighbors. Interval said laundry facility available, when asked, told to take laundry into town. Can tell a lot of deferred maintenance, told new owners and are improving, going to put in new bungalows over water. My opinion, need to bring everything up to standard first. I could easily show 100 pics of broken items, shoddy workmanship and obviously worn fixtures.
