My wife and I just came back from a great week at Maria's Kan-kin. Maria's is on the south end of the island with a quiet and relaxing vibe. The room was comfortable, the was food terrific, and the view is great. Beautiful sunsets on the patio with drinks at hand. The best part was the friendly and helpful staff. Anna the hotel manager is a jewel, and the wait staff of Angel and Luis were great. Loved it.

My husband and I decided to stay here for the last two days of our trip.
The beach area is nice and it does that job if you want to sit around and enjoy the sun.
Food: we had Guacamole and chicken tacos. Both items were tasty, a bit pricy but that's ok.
The downside: it is noisy, our room is close to the entrance. You could hear people talking, dogs barking, and music from next door.
There is a small beer fridge in the room, buy some water or pop in case you get thirsty late at night.

The last item, the bed is very stiff it made the last night not so restful. Water pressure is weak.

Nice views from the restaurant and pool area, and the staff was incredible. The rooms were a disappointment. Bed was hard as nails, pillows flat as bad pancakes. Also, there were no decent lights to read and what few lights they had were burned out. Thin flimsy towels, no washcloths. The A/C was decent. Our other room reeked of septic, also dark with poor lighting for night time. The food at the restaurant was mediocre at best and we had 2 meals there for 4 people. Two doors down the street going south, was a fantastic restaurant and water slide. The beach was cute and private but wading in the water was a challenge as there was a drop off about 2' out so not suitable for children and it was seaweed city. The pool was tiny. I couldn't see spending more than one night here and was so glad to leave. No place to get water after 8 pm. But the staff was lovely, really sweet people, the place was run down for the stars it had . The wifi was free but rarely worked and was hard to access. It was very quiet, which was lovely.

Room Tip: I heard that the hotel did have a newer remodeled room which might have been nicer than the two we rented.

We rented the ocean view room and the location was nice. It was quiet and it is like having your own beach. while most of the room was clean, the ceilings and corners could really use some attention. The bathroom mirror also did not look like it was cleaned very regularly. I am also surprised that for the price we paid that they did not provide enough water. 2 small bottles of water per day are provided. I went to the store and bought a larger 10 liter bottle of water for $1.50 to get us through the 5 days there. We found the bed comfortable. This is the first time in Mexico that we did not have unlimited water available. We felt very safe during our stay and really appreciated being on the quiet end of the island. We ventured to the north side each day and it made us really appreciate the south side after being there for a couple of hours. We also a a few meals there and they we ok but nothing special. There is really good food elsewhere on the island. I am torn between rating a 3 or a 4 but will round up as the staff was very nice and helpful. We loved the iguanas and the monkey! Ana was an excellent hostess.

Located on the South side of the island, this hotel is tucked away on a very odd street. It has a beautiful private little beach and nice pool. Despite the beach being very pretty swimming/snorkeling there is not as ideal as advertised. The water is full of sea weed all the way out past their dock. Not the end of the world but North beach is much more inviting. Again, despite some of the reviews I read, the food was only mediocre and not as gourmet as I had anticipated. Good for those looking for a low key and very quiet place to be.
