This hotel has the best beach location on the island, and wonderful beach side service. Big beach beds are included in the price and beach towels can be exchanged as needed. From the front desk to the restaurant, hotel staff is pleasant and polite. We enjoyed the amenities of the Na Balam property as part of our one week stay in a roomy one bedroom apartment off the lobby which we booked through the owner.

A free continental breakfast is provided in a beautiful ocean front location with other breakfast items available for purchase a la carte While breakfast and lunches were delicious and our servers attentive, our one dinner experience was not to the same standard.

The spacious apartment has unique decor and great lighting, a HUGE TV with an excellent selection of channels that we appreciated on two rainy evenings, good hot water and pressure in the shower. The kitchen has utensils, full sized fridge, small counter bar and good sized table and four chairs. Comfy built in seating/sleeping areas in the living area are created from twin-size mattresses. The big bedroom with king bed has an another a/c which minimizes any noise from the street outside the window. Window coverings ensure privacy. although they prevent natural ventilation. Internet connection is good in the lobby and sometimes accessible from the bed. Maid service didn't include additional TP.

We loved the accessibility of the ground-level apartment and being just steps from the sea, but a musty smell permeated our clothing and luggage. I have stayed many times in the area, but never had this happen.

The only real problem we encountered was that the private transportation we had paid for through the hotel was not at the airport to meet us! I had to make my own arrangements with the transportation company at the airport, using letters to me from Na Balam to insist on service. The hotel was eager to prove that the transportation company was at fault but this, added to the fact that the front desk attendant was not informed of our arrival and I was again asked to present correspondence documenting my reservation, made a rough first impression.

Aside from this, we enjoyed the fabulous location some really beautiful decor details and great service from many wonderful staff members.

Room Tip: Additional structures being built near the beach seem to be blocking the view from many hotel rooms.

This hotel was perfect, except the beds are just a little hard.
There are hairdryers in the room, I was not able to find this info on the website.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Wonderful maid service. We had access to everything that we needed.

Room Tip: We were in room 10, ground floor facing the Caribbean. Close to the restaurant or the beach. It was quiet when the window was closed.

The hotel seemed very interesting, but there were several problems.

The pool is tiny and is located mostly in the shade. They only had two lounge chairs. The first room they had us in (ocean front) was a disaster. There was no mirror over the bathroom sink, although the holes for it were visible. The faucet didn't work. In the shower, there was no hot water. They moved us to an upgraded room (to their credit) which was nicer, but the management was pretty unresponsive overall.

They were also renovating much of the common area. We were not warned of that in advance as most decent hotels do.

Wifi only in common areas.

The beach service was good. But caution, the north end is much more windy than the east side of the island

The food at the restaurant was decent and the service was pretty good

Room Tip: The suite that they moved us to was pretty good. Not sure it would have been worth the price, however.

We were only there for three nights, but thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and restaurant. We found an attentive staff and peaceful ambiance. The food is excellent, healthy and well prepared. We had both breakfast and dinner. Drinks at the bar as well. Expect a beautiful beach, but since the rooms are only 2 stories, you will not have a clear view of the ocean. The hotel is clearly dedicated to yoga and retreat groups with austere room. All white, very clean (park your shoes at the door) and lots of meditation music.
Best for us was the delightful staff!

PS. Reading some of the reviews makes me think that they have never been to Mexico! Come on folks it's not like home!

We stayed at Na Balam last week of November 2015. We stayed in a plunge pool suite right next to the restaurant. It was not worth the extra $$--the room was dark--the view obstructed--pool cold and difficult to sit around. The bathroom was not laid out well--not much vanity space. The shower was cold on several occasions--had to get maintenance to fix.
The restaurant staff was generally very attentive. Food Ok--didn't eat there much. Drinks were good.
Beach and beach beds were great and loved the location. There was a lot of seaweed along the beach when we were there--may have just been the winds/tides because we have visited the island several times before and the seaweed usually collected around the MIA beach.
My husband got bit by a mosquito carrying Chikungunya virus and became very ill on day 5 of our 7 day vacation.
They were just coming out of the rainy season on the island and there was quite a bit of standing water all over the place. We didn't notice any mosquitoes, but there obviously was one culprit! He is still suffering with joint pain and lethargy. Beware of this virus- it can be quite nasty. Wear bug spray!
The front desk is not very personable.
Massage staff was excellent.
