“beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2012

we stayed there only one night, and regretted we could stay longer. the hotel is beautiful, and we didnt have time to check out the pool. it looked so fabulous!
Also dinner at the restaurant was very nice, we enjoyed every bite.
the rooms are beautiful, very clean. Great service. We were helped with our bags by a staff member driving us (and the bags) with a golf cart to the suite. Enjoyed it, recommend it !

You can go to the Okaan Resort restaurant even if you are not a guest!

Very romantic setting. Small limited menu at lunch with about 20 items. Food was tasty, well prepared and presented at a reasonable price. Full bar and wine and beer too. Drawback is the not great gravel 1.5 KM road back into the resort from the main highway...but it is worth it!

The guest rooms look great - and most of them have wonderful panoramic views, but we did not stay at the resort - but we did check out several rooms jsut in case for the future. We liked what we saw - and the price point is a bargain considering the prices some other older resorts nearby get for their rooms - as this resort is more or less brand new at about 2 yars old.

Check them out on tripadvisor.com for a room rate...I bet you too will be pleased. GO - we do not think you will be disappointed. And if you don't stay there, but are in the area - at least go and try their restaurant - we very much enjoyed our luncheon experience at the Okaan Resort.

Amazing setting in the jungle, very peaceful and away from the tourist hustle. The architectural details in the room were wonderful - great craftsmanship. Beautiful balcony overlooking a pond. The pool area was really nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. Great accommodations for the price. We onnly had breakfast in the dining room - loved the space. Easy drive to Chichen Itza. We stayed one night - saw the light show and then toured the next morning.

Ok, everything in the reviews of other guests below is true. It all looks like a little paradise, nice reception, beautiful rooms (we stayed in a bungalow-room), very nice pool and an roof terrace with a view towards Chichen Itza (but be aware: the picture of the roof terrace on the website of the hotel is 'photoshopped', the maya temple is way much further away and can hardly be seen, depending on the time of the day).

But apart from the above, you'll might get something extra: in the open-air restaurant we were joined by a huge tarantula, just a meter away from our table. Since we lost our appetite that moment, we walked back through the dark to our room, encountering another tarantula on the pad. The consequence of staying in the jungle.

In our room we got a visit of another fairly big spider and our shower had excrements of supposedly lizards. On the toilet paper we found another.... spider.

We were offered another room by the helpful staff, though this did not really solve the bug-problem, since there are too many openings below the doors and the windows for bugs to come inside of the rooms. Though, the rooms in the main building might not have this problem.

If you pay this amount of money for a hotel room, the least you can expect is a room free of bugs, spiders and lizards. Besides, a TV in the room would be nice, since you might get bored at nights; the hotel has no bar (and no room service) and going a night out is not really recommendable to everyone due to the location of the hotel (15 min. dirt road by car).

We stayed here for one night so we could go to the light show at Chichen Itza in the evening, and finish the visit the following day.

Beautiful setting in the middle of the jungle, very peaceful, with nice landscaping.

We stayed in the main building, in a large room with two double beds. Hammock on the shaded veranda. No phone, no TV, no cell phone reception, so you're guaranteed peace and quiet.

Small but very nice bathroom.

The menu at the restaurant is limited, but the food itself was tasty and nicely presented. Breakfast was a large plate of fresh fruit with toast and coffee or juice.

Staff was extremely helpful and pleasant, although none of them speak much English
