We have owned at the Royal Resorts for 20 years at the Mayan and the Sands, but in just the last few years have we started trading and staying at VIC/Club International/Royal Cancun. I must say we love this resort the best. The resort is smaller, more quiet, less windy, the beach is great and you can snorkel right out front, we saw, star fish, sea turtle, and many colorful fish around the dock. We had a beach front unit and enjoyed watching the pirate ships each evening. The Palapa restaurant is a wonderful romantic restaurant to enjoy a quiet dinner right on the beach.

Peaceful, quiet, romantic, amazing, cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: Beach front, garden views or Lagoon views, the lagoon views have wonderful sunsets.

I found this hotel via trip advisor and found the ratings quite accurate. We needed a hotel in Cancun for one night after a week farther South in Mexico. Though we only stayed one night, we had a good feel of the place.
The staff were very accomodating. One could tell they took pride in their work and hotel. The grounds were very well maintained. The building was a nice Mexican villa style, smaller-scale hotel complex. I liked the rooms. There was plenty of space for three children. The kitchen was well-equipped. The view from our two balconies was beautiful, including the ocean and one of the pools. The open restaurant on-site under a palapas, on the beach, had an excellent dinner and breakfast buffet.
The only drawback (after being spoiled by beaches by e.g. Puerto Morelos) was the beach. The area to swim was not the best for adults (shallow, limited area). It is just fine for small children. The beach sand and space itself was great. When we arrived there were some brief loud beach activities, but once this was over, the place was quiet and relaxed. The 2 pools on the resort are clean, warm and had nice night-time lighting.

Room Tip: Get one facing pool (I believe these would all have by default ocean view as well).

This was my first time staying here, and first time to Cancun in 20 years. We tend to rent condo-style accomodations in other locations, and the Royal Cancun was perfect for us. I booked through Expedia for 8 nights (Mar 9-17) and I found the staff outstanding right from the front desk, bellhop, housekeeping and restaurant and activities staff. After we checked in, our room was on the ground floor with a patio facing the pool, and I felt it wasn't very private (everyone at the pool looked in when we arrived), and asked if I could even have a parking lot view room for more privacy. Since this was the height of March break, the only other room they had was the "C" type unit which had 2 levels, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms overlooking the lagoon side. While I knew this was more expensive, I offered to pay extra, but they upgraded me at no charge - what service!

We ate at the Palapa restaurant several times, and I found the prices much better than other restaurants in the hotel zone, with typical entrees about $8-10 (105 pesos) for tacos, burgers, club sandwich, etc. Not many other restaurants within walking distance, but the buses are very frequent, and at only 8.5 pesos, are an amazing deal to either the City or into the hotel zone.

Both pool areas and the beach were very relaxing, and you could dive off the end of the pier. We also used the shuttle and public bus to the Royal Sands and liked the beach there with waves and blue water.

The transfer service we used (USA Transfers) tried to drop us off at the other Royal Cancun, so be careful you specify Club Internacional (or VCI as the transfer service called it) located at KM 4.5.

All in all, a great place and I would definitely stay at this resort when I return to Cancun!

This was our second year at The Royal Cancun - same great hospitality, clean, beautiful.... wonderful for families. Small enough to let our son have a little breathing room without having to keep a hawk's eye on him at all times. We requested to be by the children's pool for our little guy and again this year they came through on our request. If you don't have kids, I'd recommend requesting to be by the other pool or just away from the children's pool. It was noisy during the day and sometimes early morning or later at night.

La Palapa restaurant has good fish tacos for 105 pesos (about $9 USD). The have burgers or chicken sandwiches similarly priced but other items on their menu are a lot more expensive.

We enjoyed happy hour from 3-6pm (1/2 price drinks).

The first day we took the bus to Walmart and stocked up on drinks and groceries for the week. Took a taxi back and the bell boy had a nice big cart waiting to put all our items in and help get them back to our room. A lot of items at Walmart were much cheaper than the onsite market (milk and yogurt was 1/2 the price at walmart for example).

I also like the location as it's not in the heart of craziness in the hotel zone. If I was in my younger partying days, then I would like to be closer to action but the relaxing location/atmosphere of this smaller resort is a big plus to me.

New mattresses this year in our room, very comfy, slept great.

this place is perfect for families and those who want a quiet, peaceful vacation free from young partiers and crazy, drinking kids. it has a shallow, clean, clear beach with no waves (unlike its sister, bigger hotel further down the beach). the restaurant is expensive, but has a great view and super friendly and helpful staff. their are two pools here, that are a good size. they are set up so not everyone in the hotel is facing eachother. the beach is not super wide, but is cozy and with the quiet clientel its no problem. the long dock is great for taking trips from directly infront of the hotel, and for jumping off to watch the colourful fish hiding under it. its sister hotel further doen the beach had a beautiful loby and super amazing looking infinity pools... if you like sharing your holiday with 1200 other vacationers (this hotel/timeshare can potentially hold up to 2000vacationers!) the royal sands has a great big beach with non-stop wind all day, making for super fun waves to play in- but no relaxing in the water. the royal sands seems to have more partiers and young kids drinking. the royal cancun has limited wind, no waves, and slways lots of chairs at the beach or pool. the royal cancun is a short bus ride to walmart or the local grocery store. it has bikes fir free to ride on the cute little tourist sidewalk right outside the hotel. the free shuttle to the other hotels is great to see a bit of the tourist strip of cancun, and for seeing the other hotels-to make you appreciate the royal cancun. the only down side of this holiday is the damn pirate ship dinner boats departing each nite from the nearby dock and shooting fake canons loudly by our beach front room... and the karaoke on wed night.

Room Tip: beach front rooms are best b924 and b1022 are great- in the middle of the hotel complex
