“Romantic escape”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Ritz for 4 days in November, and it was heavenly! We were greeted with a delicious welcome drink which we enjoyed from our balcony overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The room and bathroom were beautiful, standard Ritz style decor. The grounds were well-kept, two pools, tennis courts, and a nice stretch of pristine beach. We spent most of our days lounging poolside or on the beach. The gym was amazing, the best that I have ever experienced in a hotel, and I am a gym rat. There was plenty of equipment, multiple tvs, and the attendants were incredible- supplying lavender scented towels every 15 minutes, a perfect incentive to keep working out!!!

We tried several restaurants on the property and had fairly good experiences. Breakfast was included in our room rate and was our overall favorite. There was a large selection of fruit, juices, hot dishes and pastries, filling enough to last until dinner. We had cocktails at the Lobby Lounge and the Club Grill which were tasty, but the atmosphere was lacking because we were the only people there. This was likely because of the time of year that we visited and that the hotel was at half capacity. The Sushi and Ceviche bar and the Caribe Bar and Grill were excellent, great food and service.

The location of this hotel is good, a little removed from the Cancun nightlife and perfect for couples looking to relax. Overall, it was a great trip, and we look forward to returning!

Our family just returned from a week long stay at the Ritz in Cancun. We had a great time and were very happy with the hotel. Our kids are 12, 8 and 8 and they enjoyed the pool and beach a lot. There were lots of families there. I will say our 12 year old got a little bored, but that could just be the age he is at. Last year we stayed at the Cancun Palace and we decided we wanted to avoid the all-inclusive thing for better food. We were not disappointed! Every meal we ate at the hotel, from the casual pool-side place for lunch to The Club Grill was amazing. Even our 2 picky eaters were happy. One great experience we had was "Dinner with the Chef" in the Viking Kitchen on the property. Chef Rory was a gracious host and the food and wine were terrific. The only really great meal we had outside the hotel was at a restaurant across the street "Harry's". All the other Cancun restaurants were a bit disappointing.

The staff are all so nice and the service is first rate. We were upgraded to Ocean Front rooms and the views are fantastic. The travel concierge helped us charter a private sailboat to go snorkeling and it was a wonderful day trip.

The only downside to the hotel is how much they nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING. It was kind of ridiculous how much they charge for Wi Fi, breakfast, tennis, water, etc. So, we thought we were getting a good deal since our room rate was only about $350/night, but after all the extra costs (breakfast for 5 of us was $100 every day-but at least it was really good!) it was a pretty expensive trip.

For those of you who are concerned, Cancun seems very, very safe! The Hotel Zone is all about tourists and I even walked a few blocks alone to a mall without a problem. Everyone speaks English and takes dollars. There is a ton of building going on there, so it looks like the economy is strong there. It is definitely not the place to go for a true Mexican cultural experience, but if you are looking for a nice beach vacation it is a great choice!

It was a great hotel a great Ritz. We stayed Easter last year in a corner suite which had a great view of the sea the only down side was that we did really use it as was not in the room much. I think it makes a difference having the club lounge included you really don’t even need to go out and eat. We have been to other countries with club lounges but here they are fantastic here. I am a vegetarian and they were happy to make food especially for me nothing was too much trouble also they have liqueurs and deserts after they clear the canapés in the evening which is good. We are going back again this year.
As for Cancun I had never been before as I am not the kind of person that likes mass tourism and cheap all inclusive deals. The Ritz is the most expensive hotels on the island but you pay for what you get in my opinion luxury with a capital L. Beautiful beaches great staff it was a typical Ritz experience. The only negative was that when we first arrived there were too many kids in the club lounge which caused trouble when trying to find a seat but the staff found seats for my husband and I. Also you have to pay $10 for an umbrella on the beach which I fell when you pay these kind of prices for a room they should really be included.
All in all though GREAT : )
They may have compitition this year as also going to Ritz Cayman

I had always heard the Ritz was one of the world's top hotels so we decided to give it a try during August and we were not disappointed. The hotel and grounds are immaculate. and the views absolutely haunting. I can not say enough about the white sandy beaches and the relentless sun (bring sunscreen). The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. There are several restaurants on the property (pricey, but worth it) or you may step outside for more affordable fare. There are two large shopping malls within walking distance. If you are visiting Cancun and can afford the rates, this hotel is a must!

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the pool and ocean are the best.

We have stayed at the Casa Magna and the JW just down the street but neither of these were available so we booked the Ritz. I had high expectations and they were exceeded. We were greeted with warm smiles and immediately escorted to the club area on the 8th floor. They upgraded us at no charge and it was such a wonderful surprise. The rooms are very basic but very clean and although the balcony was small our view was fantastic. You're not really in your room except to sleep anyway. The marble bathroom was spacious and had a nice walk in shower and a huge bathtub. I wanted to take the towels, pillows and sheets home they were so perfect.

The club level was huge with lots of seating options to relax or dine. They have breakfast, a noon snack, afternoon tea time, and evening cocktails, and after dinner sweets. The food was fresh with plenty of variety at each "meal". You are served by two waiters and each cocktail table or dining table is fully set with nice linens and dinner wear. You are served a variety of drinks and can stop by anytime for a bottle of water, soda, or a fresh cup of coffee. They even have an espresso machine.

The pool was swarming with "cabana boys" to set you up with multiple towels for your head, feet and chair. They switch out your towels later when they are wet. There are many waiters taking orders promptly for drinks and food. The water was perfect and the pool was beautiful.

Thankfully, the beach looks good and you can go for long walks. Several years ago this was not the case. Great shell hunting and wave jumping too.

Writing this makes me want to go back now, so I need to stop raving. One more thing important to mention-the hotel was not very full. We stayed on a Monday/Tuesday and a large group was arriving when we left.

Room Tip: Upgrade to club level-100% worth it!
