Veracruz is a working port city, and the highlight of our great stay in Veracruz was not the place itself, but the bands, music and dance we found each night in the zocalo. The Hotel Oriente is one block east of the zocalo, and was in an ideal location to take advantage of the cultural offerings in the zocalo each evening. The hotel is also very near the malecon and the famous place to get coffee in Veracruz, the Café Parroquia. The hotel was clean, everything worked (wifi, plumbing, lights, outlets TV), and had a nice staff that was especially friendly if you speak some Spanish. The little waiting area in the lobby was a good place to read the daily newspaper they make available for guests. Our room was on the east side of the hotel on an upper floor, and we had a nice little step-out balcony to overlook the street below. The hotel is located between two one-way streets, and there is a convenient ATM and a pharmacy to the left when you exit the front sliding doors of the hotel. The hotel building has been a fixture in Veracruz for a long time, and in the stairwells they have some nice black and white pictures of the hotel in days gone by. We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Oriente, and the two days we spent if Veracruz.

Room tip: Take the elevator up to the roof at night to get a great view of the port and the surrounding areas.

If you are looking for budget hotel in Veracruz near to every business place like port, cargo company offices and so you are in the right place. Also in one step from bars and restaurants and Zocalo. The hotel is old and the rooms are very tired but not bad. The location and private parking worth the money you are playing for that hotel.

I mean it is not a luxury hotel but for a young traveler is it a good change to the regular hostels. The rooms are big and clean and the cleaning ladies are super nice. I would come again. The Internet is super fast and works 24/7.

Unlike most reviewers, I didn’t have much of a problem with my stay at this hotel. It’s pretty well-located and I certainly never had issues with noise (even though I had a room facing the main street and the promenade) or the wifi (which was very strong).

I made a reservation on booking.com at the cost of 32 USD plus taxes a for one person for one night the previous night without breakfast, and had no problem at all with the staff or my room. I can see where some people are coming from with their criticism since the hotel does look a bit mouldy round the edges but in all honesty, what I paid was a very decent price for a pretty decent room (room 323) which was huge, had so many sockets and amenities necessary to make my stay very pleasant. It’s also very close to the main tourist sites (ranging from Zocalo to the promenade) and restaurants, with convenience shops just a few steps away.

No English spoken at reception. Check-out time = 1pm. Visa accepted. Recommended.

After staying at some great places in Mexico, we found veracruz and this hotel a bit disappointing. It was an OK place to lay your head, but it didn't seem to excel at anything. Sheets were clean but stained. The shower dripped out a paltry stream of water. The towels were so old and over bleached that you could cut yourself on them. However, like the town, the hotel had one great attribute. Veracruz is not a pretty place or a tourist destination in my opinion. However, carnaval is a world class party. We were blown away by the parade we attended and the party atmosphere. The hotel is well situated in the middle of that. Go to carnaval. And if you can't afford anything better in the center of the fun, stay here.
