Casona de Tita is a hotel full of character and a great example of a house nicely decorated with Mexican fine art. Amelia, the owner, did an excellent work in welcoming us as if we were friends from old times. And as a bonus she gave us so many recommendations about great Mexican artists from the region and showed us examples of their art work. The food prepared by the cook is delicious. And the room is so relaxing! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful and spacious.

La Casona de Tita is a small and absolutely beautiful place in Oaxaca. It is located three blocks north of the historical center in a spectacular traditional Oaxacan style house. The peaceful courtyard invites you for breakfast or just to have a drink. The rooms are an eclectic mix of traditional and modern, very stylish and cozy. The staff was super friendly and the whole atmosphere was more like staying in a family than being in a top end boutique hotel in Oaxaca.
There was nothing we could fault in this place and I can only wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for a most spectacular, luxurious, cozy and friendly place.

From the moment the door was opened for us by Lourdes, we knew had found our home in Oaxaca. The transformed colonial home has beautiful appointments, each room with its own personality. The breakfast is beautifully served on the patio, which is also a wonderful place to relax upon returning from the days' adventures. It is easy and safe to walk to the churches, markets, museums and botanical gardens. The artisans and guides recommended by the staff were outstanding. The staff also shared their love and knowledge of Oaxaca with us.

Room Tip: Room 1 and Room 5

We stayed at La Casona de Tita for the Dia de los Muertos festival. Thank you, TripAdvisor reviewers for pointing us to this place! Definitely truth in advertising. We stayed in room 1, with large (very comfortable) king bed and huge bath and could not have been more comfortable. Loved the fact that this was once someone's home, with rooms all built around a central courtyard. Nice, rustic touches with stone tile floors and heavy wood doors and trim, singing canaries (and local roosters) to welcome the day, and a delicious Oaxacan breakfast served in the courtyard by the kind and gracious Gabriel. What we loved most of all was the service. Having booked months in advance, I carried on a regular correspondence with the always sunny and patient Zita, who recommended and reserved restaurants as well as a fantastic local guide (Victor of the tour company Jade) and essentially arranged our itinerary for us. They all made us feel most welcome and ensured that our trip was seamless. Unlike some other reviewers who suggested the price was high, I don't agree -- my husband and I found the room rates at La Casona de Tita to be very reasonable. Highly recommend!

Room Tip: Don't think you can go wrong among the 7 rooms
