This was our third time staying here. We appreciated and enjoyed the space just as much as the first time. The house is airy and bright, with cleverly thought out details in terms of how the space is utilized.
The inner courtyard/garden and roof top terrace are wonderful for morning coffee or to enjoy a book.
Fernanda, who manages the house, and her son Miguel Ángel are wonderful, on top of every little detail and are both total gems.
We hope to be back again.
Flanked by private gardens visible through great glass walls on the first floor, this house was a gem for us, a family of five, looking for a temporary place to call home in Oaxaca. We were well-attended by a senora who also cooked and washed clothes for an extra cost and we enjoyed daily pop-ins to the local mercado (a block away) to eat and shop for essentials. The 10-15 minute walk to Santo Domingo (5-10 minutes more to the center) was easily doable for young and older folk alike; a slightly more strenuous walk back up-hill from the zocalo was also generally doable, and when not, a reasonable circa $3 taxi ride did the job. The owner is very clear and communicative. We could not have asked for a better experience.
You couldn’t find a better place to stay than Lance’s home. It’s lovely, comfortable and practical with a convenient kitchen. The downstairs has a whole wall of windows and is always cool in warm weather. Located near Santo Domingo, it’s in a quiet, safe neighborhood with the best home made pizza place next door, a mercado a block away and a vegan/vegetarian restaurant/book store/gathering place two blocks away. Fernanda comes 3 times a week to clean and straighten up. I will definitely return.
Our family has booked this house on three occasions for 2-4 week during the summertime. There is nothing negative to cite. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, the common areas useful and inviting and the roof top offers views and dining opportunities. The most important attribute about this house, however, is its impeccable contemporary design, the use of high quality building materials and floor to ceiling sliding glass panels that reveal beautiful gardens that renters can access. There is a lot of attention to details in this home -- everything from furniture design to a wonderful variety of art.
This is our second year staying at the architects house for a month. We just left yesterday and I'm missing it already.
The house has a contemporary design, full of light and a very creative use of space.
It feels both spacious and cozy. Over the month a couple of friends joined us, followed by our daughter, there was ample space and privacy for all.
The interior courtyard garden is shady and cool, with a fountain and sun dappled greenery. rhe roof terrace has a good mix of shade and sun and a panoramic view of the city. We loved morning coffee there and late afternoons watching the sun go down.
The location is perfect. The house is easy walking distance to most places of interest, about 5 minutes to Santo Domingo and the Alcala, and about 10-15 minutes to the Zocalo. It is situated in a quiet, tree shaded corner, with friendly neighbours and a very active little neighbourhood shrine. The local market, Sanchez Pascua, is only 2 blocks away and has everything you might need, fresh fruit, vegetable, tortillas, local cheese, fresh flowers and friendly, helpful vendors.
The house manager is stellar; warm, gracious, on top of everything and exceedingly helpful. She contributed hugely to our stay; helping us with our Spanish and answering all kinds of questions about food and cooking.
It's a perfect space from which to enjoy Oaxaca. Hoping to be back next year.
