First of all if you are American complaining about long service you need to travel outside the US more to humble your standards. Most service in other countries is long. Enjoy the atmosphere and stop rushing. The food is worth the wait because it takes time to make. The tortillas are hand made on the spot and are delicious. I highly recommend starting off with a Champorado and trying a Tetelas. I had the De Hongos (mushroom) and also a Tinga Quesadilla. Everyone was fresh and delicious and highly recommend stopping here on your visit to Oaxaca.

Went for breakfast and we shared 4 dishes between 2 people. 1 of the dishes was really good, 2 were ok, and 1 was very bland. As other reviews have said the service is poor and very slow. No english is spoken but we didn't have trouble communicating. The food is very cheap. We spent $8 total for 2 people to eat. The restaurant is a little bit further of a walk from the city city than the other activities we had planned. We won't go back since the food was just ok and there are so many other delicious places in Oaxaca.

We came here to spend a family breakfast around 11am. Service is terrible. We ordered some hot drinks to start. Afterwards, we ordered breakfast.
The waitress brought everything after 30 minutes. The order was incorrect. We were starving so as you can imagine, we will never come back.

Companion and I came here because of my obsession with open-sourced seed, and a youtube video featuring the owner/creator and his devotion to "maiz criollo." Those high ambitions aside, Itanoni is an eatery, located in the laid-back but gastronimic-heavy Reforma neighborhood of Oaxaca City, a welcome change from the tourist-heavy center of the city.

We walked here. Not recommended, although it's not a terrible walk if you take a straight shot on a weekend. Reforma was safe, middle-class, and clean (for the most part). Cabs are cheap and there's a bus. The restaurant also closes at 2:00 on Sundays, so the walk had some urgency to it.

The restaurant is open-air, with even more tables in the back, were the crowd seemed- more local family. The front is crowded with small, mostly plastic tables and chairs, and when we arrived, wait-staff was absolutely slammed. This may be more to understaffing than being overly-busy, because the place is small. The menu is terribly confusing - countless options, not all of which were available at that time, but the staff would hurriedly tell you what was available. The front has a brick oven and a clay comal that everything gets cooked on. It was great to watch dishes being prepared. There is a juice bar in the back, and these were a great beverage option.

Honestly, the place was a lot of confusion. Aside from the rushed wait staff, it also appeared that this is the THE place to eat in Oaxaca for your Sunday brunch. Lots of hip and upper class people, a few Americans, but mostly locals. Some hipster youth, even. We only ordered a dish apiece, and in a city with great food, these simple dished were amazing for the very quality advertised - the essence of the corn. I was happy and tired and wanting to comeback some other time for a better table and a better chance to absorb this place.

This place is super casual. You seat yourself, wait for some menus and then order on a piece of paper, which someone will pick up in their own time!
Everything we had was an absolute delight. The tacos, the enchiladas, the memalitas, the tetelas and the tascalate drink. The tetelas with mushroom and cheese was possibly my favourite and definitely try the Oaxaca speciality of tascalte, which is heavenly.
It was amazing to watch the people cook the food on the comal and we had no issue with service as other people have mentioned. For 5 plates and 3 drinks it cost 200pesos. Possible my favourite place in Oaxaca.
