I searched and found this great house on the Trip Advisor site and made reservations for one week in mid January, 2020. The gentleman from whom we rented, the owner Ivan, was really helpful and accommodating to us. Before we arrived, I sent him a number of emails with questions, and Ivan ALWAYS responded very promptly and courteously! Here are the MANY "Pro's" of this house: GREAT location! Literally a five block walk to downtown Oaxaca! Easy to walk out and get to the downtown area! Really great restaurants all around the area. Located close to shopping for groceries, like milk or eggs or .... The house itself was wonderful in terms of its set up: you walk into a courtyard, which is very clean and decorated very nicely, and each of the four bedrooms is private and has its own bathroom. Then there is a separate kitchen and a separate living room area, so that each of us had the opportunity for maximum privacy and we could go use the kitchen or go watch TV without disturbing the others. The kitchen was very clean and had new appliances, like a new gas oven; a full sized refrigerator; a microwave; a coffee maker; a blender. The TV room had a TV. AND there was FREE WI-FI!! Ivan provided very nice touches like a wonderful hammock to use in the courtyard area; the main steel entry gate had a code, so nobody had to remember keys; in the kitchen were hats for each of us to borrow for use for the day. The house also had a nice terrace! All in all, I cannot recommend this accommodation more highly! The only "heads up" is, the beds are very firm, and for those of us who are not used to very firm mattresses, it took some getting used to. However, the Pro's greatly outnumber the Con's. AND to wrap it up, this was a very reasonably priced option for us! So keep this wonderful home in mind when you are visiting Oaxaca!
We booked this place for a group of 5 in March, 2019, for 11 days in December.
In June, I received a message from the owner requesting that I cancel - the reason given was confusing.
I checked his companion listing on AirBnB and it was clear he had mistakenly double-booked our dates on AirBnB, which he then admitted, and continued to ask that I fix HIS mistake by cancelling MY booking, rather than him cancelling the AirBnB reservation (clearly made long after ours was accepted).
To his credit, he offered two other properties (and some other local incentives), neither of which were acceptable to my group. To TripAdvisor's great credit, they strongly advocated for my position.
Finally, in frustration, we just asked TripAdvisor to cancel and refund - we have fortunately found other lodging for our travel dates, but this entire process has been unsettling. It's possible that your experience will be different, but this is mine, and it has not been happy.
