Great lunch with excellent service at this destination restaurant with fresh and authentic Oaxaca cuisine. We ate on the upstairs terrace overlooking the church. Starting with the handmade blue corn tortillas and salsa, made at our table, every dish was a visual and taste treat.

We put our names down and went for a drink as it was a little busy. It was worth the wait. We stay on the stunning roof terrace. Great ambience. The waiters were friendly and interested to chat to us. They make the fresh complimentary salsa at your table. The venison and sucking pig dishes were delicious and full of flavour. Great Mexican wine also available. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

We ate at several fun, good restaurants in Oaxaca and were looking forward to eating in one of the "best" ones. Unfortunately, our experience was mixed. The rooftop is lovely - the evening was very cool and the heaters kept it warm. The service was very good. The dinner started out well with a squash blossom appetizer that was delicious. Ford entrees, we had the guinea pig in mole which was very good and the grilled octopus. We love octopus and have had it prepared several different ways. The presentation was impressive - a very large piece of octopus. However, it was basically inedible. It was so tough, we had to work at it with a knife to cut it and it was still difficult to cut. We managed to eat about a third of it. No one asked us if we were enjoying our meal, etc. Needless to say, it was a disappointing evening.

Don't pass up a chance to eat at Casa Oaxaca. Reservations are hard to get so plan ahead.

The buzz is that Casa Oaxaca is the best of the best in Oaxaca. While it's very, very good, it's not our favorite. And I say that after 2 weeks of eating my way through this incredible foodie town.

Simply put, the food was excellent, but it wasn't as complex and intriguing as the meals we had at other Oaxacan restaurants. The tuna tatare was beautifully presented, its dark brown and reddish hues contrasting nicely with the mixed greens, and very tasty. The shrimp were huge, flavorful and a nicely balanced with the greens.

The waiter poured one of our party a chardonnay, filling the glass to about one-third full. Left in the bottle was about a quarter-inch of wine. When prodded, the waiter agreed to pour the small amount of remaining wine into the glass. It's not that the person was expecting something for nothing, but with so little left in the bottle, it only seemed appropriate to "top off" the glass. That experience struck us as odd, especially considering that all others Oaxacans we met are very friendly and considerate.

We had a lunch at this place. Reservation is must. Very busy but service is excellent.
We set on balcony second floor. View was good. Table side guacamole was delicious. They made sauce also at table side. Special corn tortilla was perfect.
Mole sauces are the best in Mexico.
Good vegetarian options.
