My wife and I had a wonderful time and meal at this restaurant overlooking the square - near Zocalo. Our server was excellent and helped us order some dishes since we are vegetarian. We ordered the red-beat salad which was amazing - the dressing was incredible. For our main course we ordered the cheese, frijoles, and avocado dish (served with tortillas), which was also amazing. It was our favorite meal while in Oaxaca. Prices are very reasonable the staff very attentive. No complaints here!

Enmoladas con Quesillo is a very traditional dish veggie also that captures mole and local cheese. Nice view to cathedral, and serviceable and friendly staff.

We were told this restaurant was a must in oaxaca but we tought it was overpriced and not good at all. The food was ok but the service was slow, the waiter was not nice wgen we asked about things in the menu that we did't understand what they were . The location is perfect, if you take a table on the second floor overvewing the zocalo . Avoid the tables downstaiirs if you dislike street vendors and beggars

This a place with good local cuisine and not the pricy as others places. Try the Chapulines if you are a little adventurous.

One of life's little joys when travelling is people watching and the Zocalo is one of the best places to do this Oaxaca. La Casa de la Abuela sits on the second floor overlooking both the plaza which is an UNESCO world heritage site and the Catedral de Nuestra Señora De La Asunción. Half the charm of this restaurant is getting seated by a balcony window and enjoying a delicious meal while viewing the historic heart of this beautiful city.

The Abuela could easily under deliver and still be successful given the spectacular view of the plaza the restaurant offers and the sheer number of tourist drawn to this area. However, Abuela does depend on location alone, the food here is traditional, well prepared and delicious offering many Oaxacan favorites in a delightful setting with an attentive and friendly waitstaff..

There is a unique conundrum when dining in Oaxaca unlike any I have ever encountered. That is making the almost impossible decision of which mole you should have with your meal when you want to taste and compare them all. Abuela has the perfect solution. I ordered the Plato de la casa which allowed me to choose four different moles dishes separated by a bed of rice. I could not have been happier I wish most restaurants offered this mole tasting opportunity.

Good friends, plates full of traditional Oaxacan food, cocktails, delicious flan and a plaza full of revelers dancing to a great salsa band while we dined made for a perfect farewell to a week long vacation falling in love with this lovely city.
