The title of my review says it all, really. I would return in a heartbeat (and WILL).
The guys who own the place, their staff and the 'hotel dog' Abril are absolutely wonderful, seeing to your every need in this most relaxing place.
There are lots of restaurants in the area--some very good--yet it is a quiet area that gets you away from much of the craziness that is sometimes Mexico City.

The Red Tree House is a wonderful, peaceful island right in the center of Mexico City yet still in a real neighborhood. A neighborhood that has many bars and restaurants within easy walking distance and fairly close to a subway stop that will connect you with most all of this sprawling city.

Craig and Jorge and their staff will make your stay easy and stress-free. All are delightful people who are very willing to share their knowledge of the city. However, just sitting in the peaceful inner courtyard is so relaxing, you'll forget you have one of the world's great cities just outside the RTH gate.

Cannot wait to return to this oasis in Mexico City!

A friend and I stayed at the Red Tree House for two nights after attending a conference in Mexico City. Everything about the place made staying there a pleasure. The architecture itself contributed to our enjoyment of the visit: the red and yellow walls and the design of the garden's stairs and terraces and plants and lights. Sitting in the graden to eat the wonderful breakfast, to read a book and drink a glass of the wine the hosts left out in the late afternoon, or to talk to friends made it hard to go out. But when we did, the Condesa neighborhood rewarded us with its own modest pleasures: sitting at a sidewalk table at Teavana drinking good tea and watching people go by, eating tacos for lunch at a great taco stand and then ice cream at one of the two classic Neveria Roxy ice cream parlors, looking at the art deco houses and apartments, strolling the well-maintained Parque Mexico and Parque Espana. The exceptionally gracious hosts and staff pointed us to all these places and to the restaurant where we enjoyed dinner late the night we arrived. Our rooms were simple but comfortable, clean and quiet. Although the location is not truly close to Mexico City's main attractions, getting around the city from the Condesa location is quite easy. I look forward to returning with more time.

Recently returned from a trip to Mexico City. Usually rent a condo near the Centro Historico. This time around we were with friends and stayed in the Condesa area at The RED TREE House. Absoultly with out a doubt, the BEST! Entire property is beautiful. Breakfast are d-lish. Rooms are really nice and quiet.Center courtyard where you can come in and relax after a day of sight seeing with a glass of wine (that is offered). Jorge, Victor are Great!! VERY helpful and there for you with great restaurant suggestions or anything you need. My only suggestion is, you NEED to plan ahead for they usually book very fast. Love this place!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are very charming.

Stayed here with a friend in May 2012. Would stay here again.

Pros:
- very affordable for the city (we paid ~$100 US/night -- most other places we looked were higher)
- rooms clean, comfortable, plenty of hot water, good beds; unlimited filtered water in kitchen 24/7 just steps from rooms; free wifi
- interior courtyard is nice secure area yet open air
- breakfast included
- often free wine &/or juice in evenings
- safe walking-friendly neighborhood with many restaurants
- supermarket 5 min walk away
- bus & subway 7 min walk away
- hosts very helpful for anything you need
- host dog (labrador, Abril) is very sweet & quiet

Neutrals or cons (depending on your perspective):
- not close to any of the official tourist sites (Centro Historico etc.). Must do long walk or taxi/metro/bus.
- can be noisy in morning/evening if there are loud people in the courtyard (most rooms have glass walls & doors facing into courtyard - interior curtain doesn't muffle noise -- not good if you're trying to sleep in or go to bed early)
- because place is small, it can easily feel "taken over" by a group (last couple of nights we were there, a group of approx a dozen people were staying & while they were nice, the place is *really* small, & having a dozen people laughing & calling to each other across the tiny courtyard at 8 am or 9pm, can be a bit offputting if you want to enjoy peace & quiet). There is a posted sign asking for quiet after 10pm & people did honor that.
