This was my first trip to Mexico City in ten years, and my first time in the Polanco area. I was very impressed with the location. It's on a circle, with shops and restaurants right outside the hotel. It's also right next door to the Marriott and the Hyatt, so if you are in town for a huge conference or event, the InterContinental is a comparable option. In fact, it would be my first choice! On the other side of the hotel is Chapultepec Park, which is great for walking or exploring the area. Great service and luxuriously appointed rooms!!! I definitely look forward to going back!!!

We visited the Intercontinental Presidente Mexico City for 4 nights in August 2017. It's a large business orientated hotel located in the lovely upscale area of Polanco.

The rooms have recently been renovated, so they're of a good standard. Perhaps a little smaller than some other Intercontinental hotels, but perfectly sufficient. The bathroom/ toilet is separated from the room by a modern window that can be turned to clear or opaque. And there are 2 automatic blinds for the main room window. We were lucky to get a high up room, with a great view over Chapultepec Park - a great view to wake up to.

We had access to the club lounge during our visit. It serves a fantastic selection of food and drink for breakfast. Then there's drinks and canapés in the evening - we were slightly surprised to find there were no cocktails or champagne during this time - as it's pretty standard for other Intercontinentals, but we were happy with a Vodka or 2!

The lobby bar is a good place to relax in the late evening, serving a good selection of cocktails, wines, beers and spirits. Around the lobby there's also some interesting shops and a good selection of restaurants. We ate in the Italian - Alfredo Di Roma on one night, which was of a good quality and a reasonable price. Outside of the hotel in the surrounding area there's many types of restaurants - so worth having a wander for dinner.

We would recommend the hotel as a good base for the city as a whole, with both Auditorio and Polanco Metro Stations within a few minutes walk. The metro was cheap quick and inexpensive, and very simple to use - better than getting stuck in the Mexico City traffic!

The hotel is in the most elite location of Polanco.... the castle is about 20 min walk. Just behind the hotel is the arena for shows and concerts..... starting point for all city tour agency vehicles. Lots of elite restaurants around... the room was very good and during my stay of 1 week, the room was maintained well... they can increase the number of sockets to charge phones, laptop etc., otherwise the room was very classy and nice... I was on the 42nd floor and the view of the city and the castle was just amazing... airport pick-up and drop service was perfect.. no hassles. They can include breakfast for all stays by default which is a norm in most of the hotels now but it's not included here... similarly no swimming pool... this I feel is a must have especially at this price point.. no swimming pool is a sore point....I missed it for sure. Otherwise... a good luxury hotel.

I stayed at this hotel and it is a mixed bag.

POSITIVES

This hotel is located in the "Hotel Zone" of Polanco the most exclusive neighborhood in Mexico City. It is no more than a 10 to 15 minute walk from most restaurants and shopping in Polanco. It is also a 2 minute walk to the Auditorio Metro station (if exit the back entrance of the hotel). The hotel also has exceptional public areas and very good service from the front desk.

NEGATIVES

This hotel has inconsistent service which keeps it from being above average. First, while the room was mostly clean all the non visible surfaces were coated with dust including the top of the headboard of the bed and the top of the shelving used to store the towels. As an Ambassador member, mineral water is supposed to be supplied upon check in and refreshed daily, but in our case it was not refreshed after the first night of our three night stay.

The hotel quoted me a rate in USD, but when converting it to MXN (Mexican Pesos) they used a unfavorable exchange rate which resulted in the bill being $8 higher than it should have been. I have a credit card which does not charge a foreign transaction fee, so it was definetly the hotel using a USD to MXN exchange rate that is favorable to them.

Finally, as a IHG Rewards member they credited the stay as non-qualifying even though my last two nights were paid and used the Ambassador Weekend free night certificate. This certificate is used with a rate which is qualifying and the hotel screwed upon crediting the stay as non qualifying "idiscounted" rate.

Finally, while the room was generally in good condition there were a few minor things broken. The close had sliding doors with the lights which are always on unless the closet doors are closed and the closet doors would not close. Also, the iron in the room had automatic retractable cord which was not working.

CONCLUSION
Overall, this is a nice hotel, but not one which is worth the very high prices they charge given the inconsistent service offered by the hotel.
