“Great hotel for access to main tourist areas”
Reviewed 11 October 2011

We stayed in the hotel for 1 night. The hotel was clean, comfortable, close to the main tourist areas and the staff were very polite and helpful. We arrived at the hotel around midnight. The staff were friendly and spoke English. A very pleasant arrival after spending 2 hours queueing at immigration. The main historical part of the city and the zocolo were a short (30 minutes) walk. Breakfast was buffet style. Fairly expensive but lots to choose from. There's a Starbucks at street level. We were above the main street through the city but had a very quiet nights sleep. We were able to leave the bags on checking out day with the concierge who were very helpful. Outside the hotel we were able to catch a taxi for 200. This was cheaper than the prepaid taxi from the airport. The hotel entrance was impressive and clean.

Room Tip: Room on the 17th floor had a great of the city

We stayed, with a break in between, all in all 4 nights at Fiesta Americana Reforma. Despite the uninspiring entrance hall, our overall impression was good.

Plus points:
• The first room was spacious, bathroom as well; the second room was smaller, but still comfortable. Various nice toiletries provided. First room had European-style sockets, for the second we asked for an adaptor at the reception.
• Rooms were clean; hot water always available. First room we had two semi-double beds, in the second one double. Both rooms were quiet.
• Lovely breakfast buffet (pity they don’t sign out the vegetarian choices)
• Free internet-access in the lobby
• Quite good location (unless you can afford staying in the Hist.Center) – it’s on Reforma street, with busses and cabs easily found (don’t take a cab right outside the hotel – they ask for fixed prices that are double); the ‘Hop-On Hop-Off bus also has a stop right outside the hotel; about a 20-minute walk to the historical center. La Reforma is a safe street to walk on, even at night.
• Two 24/7 stores across the street. Some few restaurants about 5 minutes away near Revolution square.
• Starbucks adjacent (and one opposite) hotel for those who can’t live without their beloved coffee-brews

• Negative points:
• We once chose the evening buffet and it was a complete let-down. Little choice and not tasty.
• Complicated system (it seems owing to communication-failure with reception) if you have pre-paid for breakfast – you supposedly get coupons, but we didn’t receive these coupons, so each morning, both myself and my husband had to sign a sheet of paper.
• Mini-fridge is locked and can be used only after paying a sum you get refunded after checking out (so you need to pay even only for chilling water). No complimentary coffee or tea.
• You wait for hours for the elevator
• Most of the staff does not speak English. Exchanging money at the hotel is NOT recommended; the exchange rate is ridiculous!

When even the taxi driver does not knows where the Fiesta Americana Reforma is located, we should have just chosen another place, but the location attracted us, and this is about the only positive element of this tired, unpleasant and third rate hotel, or maybe fourth rate.

Just about everything that can be wrong and disappointing, was. Rude reception personnel, concierge that would rather play with a laptop than attempt to assist guests (a package was delivered for us; no one could find it for hours, concierge swore that he never got it, reception people did the same, nada senior, nothing is here for you. Four hours later, the package has surfaced and delivered to our room, not a word of apology, we did not expect any.

English? don't dream about it, hardly anyone spoke or understood it, and no one at reception tried to use English. My partner is Spanish-speaking, so there was no problem, as for me, well, I should brush up on my Spanish if I ever select Fiesta Americana again, small chance.

Need wireless internet? go to the cafe around the corner. They cant rip us off anymore with phone calls since we all have mobile phones, so wireless connection is their latest little gimmick. Bathroom could use a major face lift, paint peeling, mould, old fixtures and so on. The corridors are smelly, poorly lit and reminded us of a of a rooming house in old Chicago.

One bright spot, kind and polite room service personnel, they are not management or front desk receptionist with attitude, so they happen to be nice.

Plenty of other great hotels to choose from in this wonderful city. We have stayed in several hotels in Mexico City in past years, Fiesta Americana Reforma, is in a league of their own - plain bad.

I was dissapointed that this luxury chain has this old building. I stayed here 3 times because my work sent me here. it need renovation urgently, the place is noisy and your room doesn't have sound-proof windows. It seems that it's popular for events, so it is busy all the time.
