I'm going to have to caution visitors to Casa de Pita. Though you will see an enthusiastically positive review from a previous stay (one of several), my last visit disturbed me enough that I switched my family to another hotel and will never be staying there again.
This is because hotel management has told me they take no responsibility for having an emergency contact should guests have a problem at night.
My elderly mother, her friend and I returned after a brief evening stroll and I found I could not get into my room. Whether it was me or something wrong with the lock and key, I couldn't get it to work. The problem was there was no one to call (the phone rang into the empty locked up office) and no one on the premises (a relative was asleep and hard to rouse.)
I finally got into my room. When I pointed this out to the management the next morning, suggesting they provide some kind of emergency number, they said they had never done things that way and didn't plan to change.
As positive as my experience was there on previous visits -- I live in San Miguel de Allende and stay overnight in Guanajuato once or twice a year -- I refuse to stay in a place where guests have no way to reach anyone at night, should an emergency arise..
