For me and many of my friends, the Sunday noon Chamber Music concerts are a weekly must! The concerts they offer at the “Gene Byron” range from jazz to classical music, presented by first class musicians from Mexico and abroad. After the concerts, they offer everybody wine and Mexican tapas, and all that for less than seven Dollars. LOVELY!!!!!

The Casa Museum of Gene Byron is the former home of a Canadian artist which has been converted into a museum a 15 minute taxi ride from the city centre. The Casa contains a small concert hall on one level in which musical events are held, as well as exhibitions, this day photos by a Japanese artist. The rest of the house contains a wide variety of Gene Byron’s artworks, as well as her collection of ojects d’art from the Americas. This casa is part of a four casa ex-hacienda called Santa Ana; the stone walls are very thick, and the interior lighting is quite dim, typical here to keep the heat down, as well as the electricity bills. It also has a nice open air courtyard and Guest House. Unfortunately, you can't just wander through the Casa on your own; a staff member has to lead you through the place and our guide did not speak English and was only able to convey a minimal amount of information about the artist and the house. There is a restaurant onsite which we didn't go to, having already eaten.

Saw a Cuban Jazz Concert there. The ticket was about $70 pesos which included an hour concert, snacks and wine afterwards. Great experience!

We went for Sunday music, which was excellent. It was a treat for us that one musician was from our home country, England, though she works for the Guanajuato university orchestra. We were too hungry for drinks and refreshments after the concert so we headed to the restaurant just at the beginning of the drive to the house. Our meal there was unexpectedly good and it was lovely to eat outside surrounded by greenery.

Before you visit, read about Gene Byron. The staff are really great about giving details in regards to the property, free tour. The grounds a lush and lovely. Wonderful place for pictures, so have your camera ready. We were able to enjoy a gentleman playing piano, which added a touch of class. Glad we were able to see this place.
