In December, 2010, a friend and I stayed in Guanajuato, Mexico and studied spanish for two weeks at the Instituto Miguel de Cervantes. I had a five star experience. The colonial architecture of the city is truly spectacular, and it is surrounded by hills and desert scrub. Guanajuato has a university with lots of museums and cultural events throughout the year. I felt very safe and the people were very kind and friendly. My experience with the Instituto Miguel de Cervantes was superb. In only two weeks I took a giant step forward with my spanish! The school is set in a beautiful and tranquil neighborhood surrounded by hills and trails. The teachers were excellent and my homestay experience was top notch. The host and hostess were very warm and inviting, as well as excellent cooks. Our room was comfortable and centrally located. I would recommend this experience to my 25 year old cousin or to my seventy year old mother! Suitable for single travellers and families, too. We cried on our last day when we had to say good-bye! I wish I could have stayed longer!
