Mexican cities are known for their plazas. The Jardin (garden) is the best known one in Guanajuato but also probably the smallest of main squares anywhere in Mexico. Because of the crowded nature of Guanajuato, which has little extra room anywhere, all the plazas in town are small including the Jardin. It is lovely and usually jam packed with people, especially every evening. All around are places to eat or have a coffee and churches, banks, and shops are not much more than a block away. The famous Juarez Theatre is just off the plaza and both the plaza and the steps of the Theatre are filled with students at the end of each day. Mariachis play each evening and the occasional band does also in the gazebo/bandstand. Trees covering benches surround the Jardin but it is often hard to find a place to sit. It seems that everyone wants to be there after work.
