My husband found this place for our yearly vacation. We’ve traveled a great deal and have stayed in some the finest resorts. I can honestly say that everywhere we’ve been pales in comparison! This is by far the most relaxing, peaceful, and beautiful place we’ve ever been. If you’re looking for a busy place with lots to do, this place isn’t for you. If you’re looking for top-notch accommodations, a stunning beach, two beautiful pools, an excellent restaurant, a wonderful staff, and gorgeous sunsets, then this place has all of that and more!

From the moment we arrived after a very long day of travel from Maryland, USA, we were greeted by Alma and Jesus with ice cold bottles of water and cool cloths to refresh us. Check in took mere minutes and we were taken straight up to our incredible villa. It was beautifully decorated with a full kitchen, living room with flat screen tv, an amazing deck overlooking the pool and the ocean, our own plunge pool, and best of all a gorgeous bedroom which they had decorated with a thoughtful floral Happy Anniversary sign. After our demanding schedules at home, it felt like we could finally breathe!

We spent our days lying by the pools, frolicking in the ocean, eating incredible meals, and watching amazing sunsets. We chose two of the options from the excursion brochure. One was an incredible in room massage, and the other, the dolphin excursion in Ixtapa by Delfiniti. I can not recommend both highly enough!

The entire time we were in Marea all we could think of was how much we never wanted to leave! It was by far the best vacation of our lives! We will be back! Again, and again!

Thank you to all of the staff for making this the vacation of a lifetime!

What an incredible property, really lovely details and appointments in the room, and large floor to ceiling windows to fully appreciate the views of the Pacific ocean. We spent a week in a 2 bedroom villa, and our only regret is that we didn't book a longer stay! We had plans to scuba dive for half of our trip, which meant we did not spend much time in the room. However, each day the room was immaculately cleaned by the lovely housekeeper. Jesus and Alma greeted us and made us feel very welcome (they even sang me happy birthday!). The plunge pool was so spacious that we hardly used the communal pool (note that someone stops by your room each day to turn it on and off). We had a few minor issues after hours which were resolved promptly by staff, they were incredibly attentive. Depending on your travel-style I would recommend renting a car, it was inexpensive and allowed frequent trips to the grocery store, restaurants and piers. I highly recommend taking a boat ride out to the white rocks which are visible directly across from Marea!

My only suggestion is that the water be softened in the showers. The water is incredibly hard and does a number on your hair. A pretty small price to pay for the paradise views, but would be a welcome improvement!

We have developed an affinity for vacationing in Central America, as it feels much more "grounded", and is always much more accommodating and less crowded than the Caribbean. While sometimes you must sacrifice the good Caribbean beauty and ocean breeze to get the benefits, the Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo region has proven in our 3 visits to the region to offer both... plus the additive benefit of a quaint old town nearby for getting a local culture experience. Even though advisories list this region as places to avoid, we feel so safe and comfortable that we are looking at ownership options in order to mandate a yearly visit.

Regarding Marea specifically, we felt very much at home! A big, beautiful, oceanfront, private penthouse of a home. This is a very new development that is in the midst of expansion, and the development plans are quite compelling. This is especially impressive considering that the starting point is comprised of about 20 1-3 bedroom villas (and 3 bedroom penthouses) that are all perfectly situated around an absolutely delicious open-air restaurant and bar. All units have private plunge pools, with the Penthouse units having the largest.

The restaurant staff could not be friendlier, the food options are terrific, as well as the quality and taste. Jesus and Alma were the onsite property managers that catered to all of our needs. I was impressed by their attentiveness, and quick responses to emails even before visiting. This level of service continued onsite and I know that it will get even better as they add more robust staffing and communication options as the resort continues to grow. As a family, we expect to visit time and time again.

One more thing... it's literally about 6 minutes from one of the calmest airports in all of mexico (ZIH). Visit!!! And then visit again! You will be happy that you did.

Room Tip: Book a penthouse if you can... yet all units have wonderful unobstructed ocean views, and private plunge pools.

I spent 2 weeks at Marea. It was nice and enjoyed my time there. There is construction of new units but you couldn't hear much of that noise. The place is very private and about 8-10 miles from Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo.

The town of Zihuatanejo is about 6 miles from Marea. There you will find a Grocery store (Mega Soriana) and gas station.

It is fairly new so it is expensive. Not all units are for rent.

I want to give a shout out to people that work there. EXCELLENT customer service. Many-many thanks to Fernando, Albina (housekeeping) Pedro (Restaurant) Alma y Jesus (Front Desk) and also Alejandro (Security)

My husband and I stayed at Marea for 10 days during January 2018 and didn’t want to leave our fabulous penthouse accommodations with the most amazing view. We have vacationed on Playa Blanca for the past 6 years during the winter, formerly down the beach before there was Marea and it keeps getting better. Marea is a community and still expanding with the planned additions of a village area, fitness center, etc, along with more residences/villas, but it’s already the perfect spot for a relaxing and peaceful vacation.

The Beach Club consists of a beautiful large pool area, beachfront restaurant, and scattered louncge chairs, beach beds, hammocks to relax on the beach with a good book and delicious drink made by Sergio (my fave thing to do!) - Although some days we just hung out on the expansive terrace of our villa which included a private infinity pool overlooking the beach and ocean until we felt like strolling along the shore. The constant sound of the surf is mesmerizing and so hard to leave, it lulls you to sleep and such a lovely sound to awaken to. Service is great and they aim to please, ask if want to arrange a special dinner, etc. and it will be done.

Another thing I appreciated is their dedication to preserve the ecology by leaving natural formations in place, eliminating the plastic footprint that is littering our beaches and oceans, and trying to protect the baby turtles so they can make their way out to the sea. One evening the guests participated in releasing the baby turtles and we also learned quite a bit, was interesting and much fun!

And the sunsets, what can I say other than unbelievably gorgeous. Every evening at sunset I walked along the shore and took outstanding photos, some of which I’m going to share. It was probably the highlight of my day and the perfect way to wind down before heading Olá (the restaurant) for dinner.
