“Delicious meal, dining experience could use some refining”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2012

This was our 2nd visit to Trio. We found both experiences to be very similar, so hopefully this is an accurate review!

Food: absolutely delicious. You will not be disappointed with anything you order... It tastes even better than described on the menu. True Italian/Mediterranean cuisine, no compromises! The 3 or 4 course daily menu is good value as are the a la carte items.

Drinks: 1st visit we ordered a bottle of wine. The wine list was surprisingly sad and way overpriced. Knowing this we decided to have a couple cocktails each this time and forgo the wine. We had two dirty martinis each with middle of the road vodka. They were prepared perfectly (when we got them. We had to ask repeatedly). We were shocked when we got our bill and realized we were charged 135 pesos each. For the states or Canada 12 plus dollars for a drink is normal for an upscale place, but here in Mexico it is by far the most expensive drink we have come across anywhere. Anyways, not the end of the world. Next time we would have a cocktail before we go and perhaps just a glass of wine with dinner there.

Service and atmosphere: it is pretty, but sooo crowded, with tables close together you can't help but hear the conversations around you. So it's a little challenging to block all that out and enjoy your company, if you are not in a big group. There are two tables for two on the balcony upstairs. If that suits your needs, try and score one of those.... A little more tranquillo. Service is friendly, but not overly attentive, definitely not refined. We had to ask for pretty much everything... Water, menus ect. I think there is simply too many customers and not enough staff.

Overall: food is so good, we will be back for sure but next time we will avoid a Friday or Saturday night, have a drink before we come and lower our expectations of the service.

“Cozy, friendly restaurant with great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2012

This restaurant does not have a huge menu but there is something for everyone. There is a good mixture of Mexican and Mediterranean choices. All dishes sampled on two separate visits were excellent. Many main courses can be ordered in small or regular size portions.
Good values for wine.
Very friendly attentive staff.

“Gets better every time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2012

We've been coming to Trio every year since 1999; a few years we threatened to stop. But following a super experience last year we decided to give it another go. Good call. Upstairs is quieter than down, but both are comfortable, with pretty good service (more below). My husband and I shared the veal ravioli, adorned (not smothered) in a light sauce, then an excellent piece of sea bass. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food, and the choices for dessert were uniformly tasty.
Service was initially excellent, but once we were served (and the place began to fill) we had movie for our servers' attention. Smething for them to work on, but not so distracting as to keep us from returning.

“Elegant dinner downtown Puerto Vallarta”

Excellent service. Dined upstairs, with our own bartender. Margarita's to die for. Had wonderful appetizers and good sized portions. Good Caesar salad and sea bass.

Trio has a wonderful atmosphere, delicious food and great service. I had the special which was sea bass and it was absolutely delicious. I had their artichoke soup to strart with (I had never had it before) and it was awesome. You can't go to PV without going to Trio!
