My adult daughter and I ( both artists) were looking for a change of pace in Mazatlan and decided upon a tour to some of the artist villages in the Sierra Madre Mountains. We asked at the front desk of our hotel in the Centro Historico District for recommendations (thinking about later in the week). The receptionist made a call and then asked when we wished to go? It was just before 9 am and she said that they could pick us up at 9:30 any day this week, did we want to go today? Hadn’t thought about it but decided why not. Picked up at our hotel by a very friendly and outgoing guide Susanna and her faithful driver companion David of Vista Tours punctually at 9:30 in a large modern air conditioned van. Took us to a tequila demonstration in the Zona Dorada. There we met our fellow travellers for the day. Including us there were 6 Canadians and one outnumbered American leaving lots of room in the van for all. Susanna was a great guide, very knowledgeable in a broad range of subjects and very passionate about Mazatlan and area and excited to share it with you. Happy to try and answer any questions you might have. Our only disappointment was with some of the artisans we visited and this was probably due to our own expectations and interests, thinking they would be more sophisticated and of a higher level. They were still interesting and all were proud to show their wares. Our quiet driver David was very good, navigating the very narrow and curving cobbled roads, making good time on the better roads and skillfully avoiding a collision when another vehicle cut us off. The tour was a pleasant change of pace and certainly worth doing and the tour company and personnel were very professional.
