We were on a cruise and we took a tour to this hotel for the beach and pool. From the moment we stepped out of the van we were greeted and taken care of!
They assigned us a waiter who was so friendly. He set us up at the beach with a umbrella and chairs for everyone. His service was top notch with food and drinks. Then we were able to go to the hotel pool and hot tub. Everything was so nice and clean. We would do this again. I also would recommend this to fellow cruise ship guest. It was a nice break from the boat!

Room Tip: This is a must for cruise travellers

We spent three weeks in Los Flores from February 14 to March 7th. Overall we give it a 3 on 5.
We will first talk about the positives and then the negatives.
Positives:
The staff are all wonderful and incredibly friendly and accommodating. The front desk staff are always smiling and one can tell they enjoy their work. The person who cleaned our room was Carmen. She did not speak much English, but thanks to Google, we could communicate. She is very friendly and professional and kept our room clean.
The hotel is right on the beach so it’s in a wonderful location. We could walk for miles on the beach and because the sand is hard, it’s an easy and level walk. The beach walk is better than Cabos and better than Puerto Vallarta. The hotel is also located in the Golden Zone, close to other hotels and many wonderful restaurants and stores. It’s also a short walk to large supermarkets such as Soriana. There are two of those stores nearby and also not too much further, within walking distance, a Gran Plaza with many stores and a movie theatre with a couple English movies.
We had a King Suite with a kitchenette. It was one of the re-modeled rooms. The King bed is sort of it’s own room but there is no door to the kitchen, which is fine. The bed has a night table at each end, with 2 drawers. We actually changed rooms during our stay, from 908 to 508. I’ll explain that in the negatives. The mattress in the 908 room was more comfortable as the one in 508 has a slope on the left side. I had to sleep more towards the centre to not be in that slope. Other than that, the mattress was comfortable.
The closet is quite big but the shelves were hard to get at because the door opens into the night table.
There is a fan over the bed which we had on constantly. We like to have air circulation. We also left the patio door open most of the time and we got a nice breeze coming into our room.
The shower was great. It has a shower head and a hand held that can also be used. It’s one or the other, but it was very handy. It takes a long time to get hot water but it only occurred once where we didn’t have much hot water. The sink space is very limited. We can hardly place anything on the counter around it as there is very little counter space.
The kitchen was decently equipped with the basic necessities; a setting for 4 people.
A small 2 burner cook top did the trick. There really aren’t enough pots if you’re making a meal. There were enough knives but only because we brought a knife set from room 908. There would only have been one knife otherwise. (except for 4 regular knives) There is a coffee maker and toaster which worked fine. We didn’t use the blender. My wife drinks tea and we had to buy a kettle because one is not provided. The microwave worked fine.
There are many plugs throughout, the kind we have in Canada and the USA.
It should be noted that you should not drink the water from the tap. It appears to be common place in Mazatlan to drink only bottled water.
The sofa in the room is not very comfortable but at least there is one. There is an oversized kitchen table with 4 chairs. The table takes too much room for the space size.
The TV worked fine but as one can expect, it’s mostly Spanish channels, and the English ones are not worth watching. The TV has HDMI ports so we hooked up to WIFI and streamed from our computer.
The balcony is a decent size; enough room for a small table and 2 chairs. The balcony faced the ocean and we could see beautiful sunsets almost every night.
The two pools are quite cold; they are not heated. The ocean is warmer. The tables around the pool are great to sit at and almost always available unless a cruise ship is in port, Then, the patrons will be lucky to get a lounge or a table. The hotel obviously has an arrangement for the people on the ship to stay a few hours here.
We only ate once at the restaurant, the day we left, for breakfast. The food was well priced and very good. Coffee was also good. My wife had asked for green tea but thye could only give us regular tea.

Now for the negatives…
Room 908, although re-modeled, had two major problems: really bad sewer smell coming from the kitchen and an air conditioner that leaked water. Twice we woke up to water on the floor and under our bed. The second time, we asked to be changed rooms and they were very accommodating. Thank you! Hopefully these issues are now fixed. They gave us free WIFI to compensate us for the trouble regarding our room change. The normal charge is 60 pesos per day. On that subject, I’m not sure how their internet service functions. Every day, one has to go down to the front desk and get a paper with the password for the day. One day, I got the last paper and she said that more passwords would arrive in the afternoon. I’ve never heard of this before. It’s an odd procedure. The WIFI did work well however.
A huge Marriott Hotel is being constructed right next door. It’s so close that they had to close off one of the pools when the workers are working at that end. It is very noisy all day, front and back, 6 days a week. It’s interesting to watch from one’s balcony but not what you would expect on a holiday. Right now, they are starting the floor above the underground parking. There is no doubt that when this building is fully constructed, we would not see the sunsets as we see them today. From our room, we would only see the “Isla De Venados” straight across our balcony. Speaking of noise, keep in mind you are in the hotel/Golden Zone so there’s a lot of partying and noise to the wee hours of the morning, especially on weekends. We had to put on the air conditioner unit to drown out the noise. The unit didn’t seem to provide air conditioning but it did vent the room.
We can also hear noise from the kitchen chairs in the other units. Every time someone gets up from a chair, we hear the noise. This could easily be fixed if they simply put felt pads under the chairs. We also hear the cupboard doors slamming. Again, this is an easy fix with felt pads.
Smoking is allowed on the balconies. Unfortunately, we are sensitive to smoke. If I inhale it, I cough for an hour or so. Most times, we were ok but if someone smoked near us, it was a problem. Unfortunately, smoking is allowed n the pool area as well. There appears to be little concern with second hand smoke.
The elevators are quite slow so one has to be patient. After all, we are on holidays!

Would we stay there again? Maybe but not for an extended period. A week maximum, when the construction is over.

Room Tip: Choose a renovated room, preferably away from the construction.

We had a nice room with ocean front view, room 609. It was an updated one bedroom suite with 2 televisions. We had a king size bed. The mattress was hard and worn.
Should be replaced for better comfort. The rooms were drafty on windy days. It had 2 balconies and a jacuzzi tub off the master room. The suite was set up with a full kitchen and good supply of dishes and utensils. Full-size fridge with a 4 burner gas stove. Plenty of storage for food. Walk-in shower with plenty of room. The water pressure was poor in the shower. Toilet was in a separate room which made for good use of bathroom and shower facilities good. There was a connecting door to 2 other suites which made for some drafts under the door. We put towels down or ran some paper towels which helped, but putting some door stripping under the door would help. The noise level from other units could be a bother if late, but we didn't have any issues.

There could be more storage for clothing in the bedroom, as there is little drawer space. We had very good service around the pool. There is no free internet except in the lobby area and at best it is slow. You can purchase internet for 60 pesos for 24 hours which would work in your rooms or at the pool and it was very good. We did use it one day to make some final bookings and computer work that had to be completed on time.

The hotel does accommodate 'cruise ship clients' which might be an inconvenience for some people. It gets quite busy, but we never had any problems. For the most part, they pay a flat fee for the use of the facilities for the day and they spend some cash and tips, which I'm sure is appreciated by the resort and the staff waiting on them. It is actually nice to visit with some of them and they are very interested in hearing some good restaurants and location to visit.

There is a group of approx 6-8 adults, who patron the resort daily and they are rude and very demanding. Upon inquiring we found they were friends of the Las Flores Resort, and as such seemed to get priority treatment. We found them pushy and demanding of certain tables and chairs. They seem to use the facilities and not required to pay a fee or make use of the restaurants or bar, which as a paying client, I found intimidating and frustrating.

Our ''free" wifi in the lounge did not exist. We paid for wifi in the room, it did not exist. We called the front desk to say we were having trouble logging in so they said ok bring the password and instructions down to front desk. We did that and he said they are having trouble with wifi. Sooo, don't you think they could have told us that before we paid and then got refund?
Nicely updated rooms for the most part, however mildew around the drain in the sink, gross. Not really very clean room.
The last day we stayed there was blaring music and a screaming woman on a microphone for 6 FULL hours!! They said she was going to be finished by 6pm, it started at 2:30 pm. Finally ended after 8:30 pm. We had to leave our room, seriously, we couldn't talk without shouting and TV couldn't go load enough! Frustrating when you want to have a rest after walking out and about all morning.
The front desk said we wouldn't have to pay for that day if we wanted to change hotels, this was at 6pm. So many quests complained and yet they did nothing to shut it down. She had rented the hotel on beach side from 2-6 pm and people were yelling from their balconies for her to 'shut up'!
Check the rooms out before you book.

Las Flores rooms have been updated neatly. Staff is friendly and helpful. Strawberry margaritas are the best anywhere. But we won’t stay there again due to the incredible nightly noise. Raucous music not from the hotel but bars and restaurants in the vicinity continues until 4 in the morning. Maybe we’re just old but a decent night’s sleep is part of a relaxing vacation. (Noise canceling headphones didn’t block the din.)
