I just can't believe that the describtion of this Hotel has the words
5 starts attach to it!! We stay there one night, we made the reservation over the phone, we had never been there, and since we notice that it was the only 5 star hotel in Nogales we decide this was the place. Well were we ever wrong........We walked in to the room and I just wanted to go and get my money back.....The carpet was nasty, it was out dated, and it just didn't feel clean. We were already late for the event so we really did have the time to go and look for another place. So we had to stay there..I just can't belive
that they still think they are a 5 star. Maybe it was back when it was first built but it isn't one now. We were looking forward to going and sitting by the pool for a while the next day, we have a 2 year old so we wanted him to have a little fun at the pool. But let me let you......that pool was so nasty....the water was brown!!!....
needless to say, we didn't spend any time by that pool! I am not just being [----] nasty either, his place is just not what the website tell you, or anything close to it. Please reconsider if you are planning on staying here. Sorry! :(

This is allegedly the best hotel in Nogales. I won't be sarcastic though I am tempted. It says it is a 5-star property. Maybe it was when it was built, but I would rate it about 1 star now on the TA scale. Service was very courteous and prompt. The room was very clean but needed maintenance especially in the bath. Towels and sheets were properly provided, very clean and satisfactory. The bed was very hard. The hotel's web site does not work for reservations, nor do any travel sites which list the hotel. You have to call them or just show up. The hotel is not as close to the border as its web site states (they say 3 miles, but it is closer to 6-8 miles). The cost is actually about $50 US for a king bed room, not $80 as in another review. Briefly the property needs a lot of maintenance, a lot of which is easy and simple. For example, the shower and bath are tiled with marble, but it has not been kept properly grouted or sealed. As a result the bath ceiling was wet, and the paint peeling off, from moisture from the bath above on the next floor. The pool is not usable though is a very attractive area. Pluses: quiet, not near the noisy and busy tourist area, the night view of Nogales is very attractive, all the staff (many bilingual) were very friendly, courteous and helpful, and the restaurant was very good for both dinner and breakfast. Also, the restaurant prepared some special things for me just as I requested at no extra charge. Too bad the owner is not apparently interested in maintaining the property. It has good architecture and could be very attractive. It is in the midst of Nogales' main industrial and business area where there are a lot of business visitors from elsewhere in Mexico and the US. Other nice hotels in Nogales are located in noisy and busy areas, or outside the City on the main highway going south from the border, which are not convenient to the business areas.
(I have traveled in Mexico a lot. Mexican hotels often over-rate themselves and show pictures that are ideal but not average for the property. Even considering that, 1-star is still all I would give for a rating. But I would say that I have stayed in worse and paid more.)

We wanted to stay in Nogales and found Plaza Nogales link from here. The photos looked really nice....the "Great Place to Stay" and $80.00 for a double room sounded good.

Upon arrival the lobby looked OK...we were told to drive through security around back to our room. We walked up a filthy stairway as there was no elevator. Outside our room there was water leaking through the ceiling onto the carpet which was actually growing something....it had been leaking a long time. Entering the room it looked like a typical 2 star room. We decided to pull back the bedspreads...the top sheet on one bed had a huge hole in it...see photo. The other bed's bottom sheet was so thin you could see the mattress, which didn't have a matress pad ... see photo. The bathroom was bearable. The grounds had trash everywhere, the pool was extremely dirty. Since we didn't know where else to go and we wanted to shop that afternoon, we decided we could sleep there. We both slept poorly as the deadbolt on the door did not work. We put a chair against the door. Doors opening and closing in the hall all night. We rose early to leave, the shower did not work, so we took splashed off and drove away...all the smarter! Sorry the photos aren't clearer....camera phone.
