Description: The Pointer is a country pub, restaurant farm and butchers that serves fantastic modern British Food. Situated at the centre of the village of Brill in Buckinghamshire, we are open Tuesday to Sunday, serving lunch and dinner from Tuesday through to Sunday afternoons. The butchers where you can buy our meat and charcuterie and produce from local artisan producers, is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons and Saturday morning until 2pm. At the pub, we cook what's best on the day, using the seasonal produce we either grow ourselves in our kitchen garden or purchase from local artisan producers. Much of our meat comes from our own livestock herds and neighbouring farms, and if from further afield, from farmers who believe in excellent standards of animal husbandry. We’re easily accessible, have plenty of parking and beautiful gardens leading out to some lovely walks. You’ll find us by the village green, next to All Saints Church. Families and children are very welcome. In Spring 2017 we'll be adding four rooms for overnight stays too.

Went to The Pointer for a fabulous Sunday lunch. Roast beef with all the trimmings, totally delicious. Surroundings beautiful and very cosy interiors. Service good although a little intrusive at times. Will be back as food always great.

this is a bit out in the country but worth the effort as the food is well-resourced ,well cooked and unusual.parking is easy and there is an adjoining butchers shop.recommend

Very impressed with the food and atmosphere at The Pointer.
We went for a 'quick' lunch, which was a shame as we would've loved to stay longer and sample more of the marvellous food!

Having been told that The Pointer was in The Time best 100 restaurants, for a very special occasion, we decided to have dinner there. It was not a good choice.

There were only 4 choices for main course on the menu, none of which made particular appeal. All the prices looked ridiculously expensive. We were told that there was a special (by word of mouth, there not being any indication otherwise), a sharing Longhorn cattle rump steak, so this was what we selected.

Rather pretentiously, a brown paper bag clipped by an old fashioned clothes peg, arrived with bread in it. On the table was a Marmite/butter roll (don’t imagine what it looked like!).

The steak arrived, cooked exactly as we had requested, medium rare and was accompanied by a small ramekin each containing either 6 or 7 chips. There was no other vegetable except for a small bunch of roasted small tomatoes to share.

If all steaks from Longhorns are as tough as this was then they should revert to Aberdeen Angus. Unfortunately the brown paper bag had been removed before its serving.

The chips were cooked in dripping but had an unpleasant flavour and, although the portions were small, some were left. They could not be rated as high as even Aunt Bessie’s frozen from a supermarket.

Although we did not have a starter, we did not stay for a desert. The special occasion was memorable, but for the wrong reason.

A beautiful pub in a beautiful village. Lunch for 5. The food was delicious - only one of us had a starter, the IoW tomato salad, which apparently was really tasty - the mains, plaice, pork and roast beef were all good (plaice was apparently perfect), special mention for the yorkshire pud, huge and pretty much perfect as well. Smoked salmon - a starter but double size (and double price) - as a main was delicious but not a particularly generous helping.

A couple of observations - service was pleasant but rather slow, this may or may not have been due to the fact that the owner’s table was getting extremely attentive service. Our mains arrived exactly an hour after the time the table was booked for - delay was really unnecessary as we sat with our drinks in the bar, with menus, so could easily have ordered then rather than waiting until we were seated, whereupon we waited for another 20 minutes. When we mentioned this at bill paying time, the comment was that is was intended to be a leisurely Sunday lunch - which it was, and it was delicious too.

Was it good value ? Well, £36 a head inc tip, no wine, just beer and soft drinks, one espresso, only one starter, no puds. Up to you, I suppose. We loved it.
