Had lunch here today. Quaint setting with fabulous food. Just perfectly cooked fish and vegetables. Lovely friendly staff. Renewed our faith after a really poor meal in Westport previous evening. Left feeling very satisfied.

We came across Paddy’s Bar during a drive around the narrow roads of Tourmakeady in the scenic West of Ireland. This is a lovely quaint thatched pub with dining room extension. The location is stunning, especially when sunny (there’s lots of rain and rainbows!) on the shores of Loch Mask with the Partry mountains in the background, against a blue sky. We enjoyed a drink at one of the tables in the garden - didn’t have the food, but the portions seemed generous at good prices.

This is a popular location for weddings and occasional traditional music sessions on the lawn – the late Robert Shaw, actor famous for his role in Jaws, was a regular customer here - he was been immortalised in his adopted village of Tourmakeady when a stone memorial was unveiled in his honour over 10 years ago.

Today, my daughter and partner took us (5 adults, 1 child) for Mother’s Day lunch.......what a superb experience. As soon as we walked through the door, the greeting, from all members of your team was so welcoming. We were early so we could take pics at the lake. Nothing was a problem, table was ready for us whenever we wanted it. Service was magnificent, food was excellent, the team of your workers is a credit to you. Will be recommending this to all friends, and am looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Well done! Top class!👏👏👏

When I was a student in Galway in the 80's, I had a friend from Tourmakeady who regularly invited me there for weekends. What a golden time that was... fine tuning our appreciation for good Guinness in locations such as Paddy's on the shores of the Mask or Maire Lukes, further up the hill.
Back then Paddy didn't serve food unless it came in a small plastic bag. There wasn;t always a fire in the grate. It could be dusty inside. I was told if the fishing was good, Paddy would be gone and the pub could wait till he was done!
How things have changed. The skeleton of the old Paddy's is still there and the turf smell and feel of the old pub is fairly authentic. Nothing faux here.
The dining room we were in is at the pub's rear which runs the full width. It is basic and not about ambience. The reason you overlook its utilitarian layout is the vista out the windows. The Mask is a brooding presence out there and this can't easily be rivalled by many other hostelries in the country.
I was celebrating an anniversary with my family and we wanted simple, quality food. It was very good, everyone was happy and stuffed to the gills by the end.
Two of us had chicken goujons and two had BLT's. The chicken was tender and succulent- well cooked. The BLT was relished as well. There was loads of salad and fries served with each dish. My wife had a burger which was good quality too.
The service was prompt and efficient and the staff were pleasant, helpful and skilled-even the way the place filled steadily didn't bother them.
There was a bouncy castle with happy kids on the well-groomed lawn running down to the lake. Good idea. Numerous benches out there too if you like bracing lake air.
I had a Smithwick's (Guinness too heavy with lunch) which is often a beer which you can gauge a pub on...if it tastes like soapy water, then it's usually a crap bar. Not in Paddy's, it was excellent. My wife was mildly impressed too with the range of wines.
€70 odd for six dishes for five people ( we couldn't resist the battered mushrooms) is superbly good value in my book.
I'm definitely going back for the next family Sunday lunch outing.
