Visit interesting and well thought with various rooms and various intervenants all passionated , just a shame that whyskey can't be tasted
My husband being a whisky lover, we booked a distillery tour with this company.
We were accompanied by Peter, enjoyed a hilarious and entertaining hour and a half in his company.
The tour is highly original, especially as the first remark he made was that the distillery had only been open for about a month and the whisky tasting would take another three years. We could wait at his place if we wanted though ...
Entertaining as it was, he gave us loads of information as well and showed us around the place, explained the working process and we had a look at the stills. There were three, as they distll wodka, gin and whisky.
The tasting did not include whisky, as explained earlier, but we did get a taste of the wodka (very smooth) and gin (gorgeous!) I am not much of a gin-drinker myself, but loved the flavour of this one. The spices and herbs and flowers are all noticeable, it was very agreeable to our taste buds.
They could not sell their own produce (yet) but we hope to find a bottle of their gin in Westport to take home.
Loch Measc Distillery is a brand new enterprise in an incredibly beautiful part of Mayo.
Getting there requires a little persistence as you drive down country roads but the effort is rewarded.
They manufacture Gin with a lovely orange note, a Vodka that is surprisingly smooth and are beginning with their whiskey. Will be back in 3 years to taste that too.
