The wait to check-in was long - about 20 minutes. The process went smoothly once at the counter, but the staff, although polite, seemed pressured. The room and furnishings were just old. I exited my room on the first day of my stay to accommodate the housekeeper who announced herself, but upon my return 7 hours later, the room had not been touched. The bathtub & surround were not clean, the wall across from the toilet had obvious dirt and the toilet paper holder fell off the wall. The rails on the top floor balcony had rotted away either from termites or weather. The threshold at the entrance to the elevator needed to be replaced. Although the locale was convenient, the ambience of this hotel is greatly diminished since my last visit about 3 years ago.

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and had an amazing time. The pools were nice, the staff was great, and the breakfast was AMAZING! Our room was amazing with an great view of the lake. When we checked in, our room wasn't ready yet but we were able to store our luggage with the staff to go and have lunch at Port Lucaya Marketplace which was walking distance.

Room Tip: Get a room on a high floor for an amazing view

Arrived 7/27/17. Checked in at 9:12 AM. Room wasn't ready until AFTER 5:30 PM. Bathroom FILTHY! Cleaned it myself. Promised dinner vouchers by Supvr Eleanor. Arrived to pick them up, NOT READY. Told to wait for 10-15 minutes. 2 towels to wash with. Told may have to wait until 6 PM to get towels to bathe after fishing excursion this morning from 9 AM - 12 noon. Staff does not like to work. RUN FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!

Four nights in this hotel was three nights too many. It started and finished with long delays that even made a mockery of Bahamas time. Room had seen better years - in the 1990s I suspect- and the air conditioning never operated properly. The hotel restaurant/ bar was nice and the staff were friendly enough but the breakfasts were disappointing as well as expensive; better food and value in Greek restaurant in market place. Not worth paying extra for views. Rooms were quiet.

The Pelican Bay is a good general hotel with all the basic services you would expect. The rooms are a little tired but they are currently going through a refurbishment which hopefully will address this. None the less the suite I stayed in was clean, large and comfortable, though the air conditioning unit was trying to audition as a jet engine. service.

Outside the room, the service at the hotel can be defined as 'island relaxed' which some will like while others can find painfully slow. The food available on site was reasonable and the chefs at Sabour clearly take pride in their job as everything I ordered was well presented and flavoured.

Unfortunately, this care doesn't extend to the breakfast. As many other reviewed have noted this is on the basic side. I attended at various times each morning during my stay and always found a sparse selection and very slow service.

All being said, and taking into consideration that the whole island is still recovering from a bad hurricane late last year (2016), the Pelican Bay ticks all the boxes if you are looking for a good mid-range hotel in Freeport.
