Should be a beautiful property but it's not been kept up. It's as if the management is sick and tired. Guest room: not private because of the porch around the perimeter - people can walk by and see in the window as there are no blinds. Awoke in the night with bug bites. Food: With only 6 others in the dining room, it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get food. And it was lousy. No salads, no desserts available, either. I'd go to a motel in a strip mall before I'd go back there again.

Hubby and I just got back from 6 days at ASTA. We loved our ocean view and the house itself is pretty glorious. NIcely furnished, very pleasant staff - though the chef was on vacation so there went our breakfast as expected. The ladies covering for the chef laid out a nice continental breakfast but the scrambled cheese eggs and bacon we were afraid to ask for each morning were a far cry from the advertised waffles, omelettes, pancakes and french toast! It is absolutely essential you rent a car if you stay at ASTA. The beach, one you'd want to sit on anyway, is not in walking distance and there are only 2 restaurants you can walk to. When you do walk, be careful - because there aren't sidewalks or any kid of pedestrian manners in the Bahamas.
We never used the pool - it is pretty but somehow not as appealing as the pics make it seem. The place down the street, Compass Point has a sweet deal wit ASTA - you can use their beach and pool plus lunch and a towel for $20 - when you return the towel, $10 goes towards your lunch. We should have done that - but it rained 9/10th of our trip. Maybe we should have just stayed at Compass Point - they had a GREAT restaurant, a fun bar and the huts on the water looked pretty cool too. My hubby said he would stay at ASTA again - and don't get me wrong, they were very nice, but I would have liked a TAD more action....

Room Tip: Get nothing other than the oceanview - you will regret it.

This hotel really is a gem. Just five minutes from the airport and within walking distance of two good restaurants, it is a secret slice of heaven! After a day in Nassau fighting through the cruise ship guests, return to an honesty bar, charming staff and don't forget to have dinner there too. Technically a B&B, their chef is amazing and Colin served us impeccably. We had one of the top floor rooms - very spacious with a huge (if somewhat unnecessary) bath and big shower too. Breakfasts were included and very generous - fruit, cereals, waffles, eggs of all descriptions with OJ, coffee - the works! The rooms below have the benefit of the large wrapround balconies but there was plenty of room to sit outside either undercover (the odd shower) or outside over the sea. There is a small terrace to sunbathe on with a pretty grotto to chill off in. We could not recommend it higher. We were made very welcome when we dropped back for breakfast and a couple of hours in between flights - what more could you ask for?

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have the most space - next floor down balconies - your choice!

This is a place where you can come and have a quiet relaxing vacation, this place is like a gem. It is only three minutes from the airport and around the same to a close by beach where you can just walk to. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone. The staff are very friendly, Chris the manager is so nice to us, always trying to give a helping hand.

dinner is excellent, love the warmth of the water at the pool.

Room Tip: choose the ocean view room, nice view

At the west end of New Providence lies an exquisite hideaway. A STONE'S THROW AWAY is perched on one of the highest elevations by the coast. The scenery boasts the best of the island's natural wonders, from the native pine forest by Lake Killarney to the brim of the coral reefs that protect the glimmering beaches of west Nassau. The property was recently built to echo the traditions of an old Bahamian home: wood floors and wood ceilings, louvered shutters and a large wrap around porch bring the visitors back to a quieter time long ago when the music of the islands could be heard in the whispers of the trade winds. ... more   less
