the Westin St. John Property is truely back to looking as good or better than before the hurricane damage. it is a great place to stay with easy access to Cruz Bay for your dining pleasure. Most everything was open for the early part of the season. We go this time every year and love it. Late October is perfect to beat the crowds.

Such an excellent setting tat it made up for only having one, very average, restaurant/cafe. The pool activities were directed from a very loud speaker that was kind of irritating for the 80% who were not participating. I literally could not hear my own headphones.

Room tip: A tad small for two couples but who needs to be in the room when in a place like this

This was our first time staying at the Westin St. John. In the past we’ve stayed in St. Thomas and only come to St. John for day trips, but given the St. Thomas Marriott we normally stay at is still closed from Irma, we decided to give the Westin St. John a try. We couldn’t be happier with our decision.

Although we never experienced the resort pre-Irma, there were no signs of damage or ongoing repair that we noticed. The entire resort is beautifully landscaped, and well-maintained. Other guests we spoke with who had experienced the resort before the hurricane(s) said the primary changes were the removal of the primary lobby (which sat on a hill in the middle of the resort and was devastated by the hurricane) and the more limited food offerings. To that end, as many other reviewers have noted, there is currently a single on-site restaurant, “Snorkels”. While the food we had at Snorkels was just fine, and the service pleasant, given the limited offerings (essentially, “bar food”), we would surely tire of it quickly if we tried to eat every meal there. We understand that the resort is close to opening a second restaurant, which will definitely help with the variety, and also hopefully mitigate one of the most-often mentioned (and legitimate) criticisms of the resort.

Beyond that, we didn’t experience any of the issues some other reviewers have mentioned. We found every staff member we came in contact with extremely friendly and engaging. Our housekeeper (room 3122) was very pleasant as we interacted with her each day. While our villa was one of those up “on the hill”, we didn’t find the walk to and from the main portion of the resort to be overly-burdensome, and with almost no exception, as we were walking to/from our villa, a friendly staff member in a golf cart would pull up and offer a ride. The beach was perfectly maintained, and there were always enough chairs and umbrellas available. The pool is beautiful and large, and also had plenty of seating. For those who like to cook, or just have a few drinks/snacks on hand, the St. John Market grocery store is very close, convenient, and easily walkable. You can literally see the building from the resort. Heading into town for excursions or a meal is easy, as there are always taxis on hand, and the fare is consistent ($5.00 per person into town or the ferry dock; more if you go to the beaches).

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Westin, and will definitely return. We didn’t experience any of the negative interactions others have indicated, and would highly recommend the resort without hesitation.

I was going to give the property a rating of Very Good due to the limitation of only one on-site restaurant but the friendliness, professionalism and efficiency of the staff more than compensates for this slight negative. We stayed in a studio villa as far from the main part of the resort as possible and still had a blast during our two-week stay. The view of Cruz Bay from Bldg. 33 was awesome and the walk to the fitness center served as my warm-up. Having said that, a shuttle ride to any destination on the property is only a phone call away and the wait time is very short.

The on-site restaurant, Snorkels, is excellent (try anything with blackened Mahi if you like cajun-type seasonings) but you will want to explore other offerings on the island if staying for an extended period of time. We did, however, eat almost all of our lunches there. The pool is huge and clean and has a wait staff that will bring you drinks from the pool-side bar and/or food from Snorkels.

I worked out 11 out of our 14 days and loved the fitness center. I do a high-rep dumbbell-based workout and, with the exception of chest day and shoulder shrugs, the 50-lb max dumbbells were more than adequate. All of the equipment looks brand new and is in perfect working order.

The staff really make this place, though. Keep and eye out for Denesia, Anabel, Jen or Fitzroy. They are awesome and really made our stay enjoyable. We will stay here again. Can't wait, actually...
