This small, locally owned Hotel is perfect for a "Get Away" from the hustle and bustle of life. Many nice features, including Kayaks and Bicycles. And, it's right next door to one of the best Restaurants in Frederickstad, the Beachside Café.

I booked our stay at the Cottages for our 30th anniversary trip. We stayed in the Charthouse which was very roomy and had a private patio and looked right out over the ocean. We had an amazing time and really hated to leave. The owner Paul was helpful and friendly and our housekeeper was excellent and always around to help and answer questions. The large bathroom was great. We spent time traveling the island with a rental car and saw so many great sites and delicious restaurants. On our down times it was great to just walk a few steps and be swimming in the warm water. The nights we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves. It was simply the perfect trip.

Room Tip: The Charthouse cottage we stayed in is very spacious and set apart from the other cottages. It has a private patio which was great for a quiet breakfast. The large shower was great. The many windows provided a nice, steady breeze through the cottage and we never needed the A/C.

I have to say the the Cottages by the Sea was a delight. The rooms were very clean, the property very well kept and the staff fantastic. When we arrived we were given a room upgrade to the Coconut from the the Chocolate room. It was on the second floor just over the Chocolate which provided us with a full kitchen and a really nice view with our own private deck. Paul was very helpful as was the rest of the staff. The beach here is very nice and not very crowded. The snorkeling is pretty good with some decent rock formations. For the best snorkeling I would suggest a short trip down to the pier. We saw several stingrays included eagle rays and a southern ray as well as a few barracuda and several sea turtles. Lots of other cool fish and squid as well. I would definitely recommend renting a car as you will need to drive anywhere you want to go. Groceries are a few miles away. The rain forest and a trip to Cane Bay is also a must. The coral reef there is awesome and very close to the shore. Saw my first eel there. Just cannot say enough about the beauty all around the bay. The mountains drop right into the ocean. Just one last note, if your nervous about driving on the left side of the road, just remember shouder to the shoulder and it is a breeze. After a day or so it feels very normal.
Happy travelers from Colorado on a December vacation with our grand daughter.

Just stayed there 11/10--11/15, nice beach, great old timey feel cottages, well maintained. Owner and staff could not have been nicer. If you fly in after dark it can be very hard to find, but everything on this island is hard to find after dark.

We just returned from a week at the Cottages and have nothing but good things to say about this amazing place.

It´s located right on one if the most beautiful beaches I´ve seen in my life and very close to some others, just as beautiful and peaceful. Excellent for swimming, snorkelling or just relaxing. What we most appreciated about Cottages on the beach was the incredible peace and quiet. The place was full and yet there was not a sound other than the gentle waves. If what you´re looking for is true peace and disconnection from the world, this is the place for you.

Our cottage had a fully equipped kitchen, a very comfortable bed, air conditioning, private balcony and a wonderful shower. The forniture and equipment are brand new, or at least they seemed brand new. Maintenance is obviously a priority at this place. They offer snorkeling equipment (great snorkeling, we even saw a turtle) and beach amenities, all in an excellent condition. The beach and the whole complex are very clean and well maintained. Wifi works great, and they also offer a computer with Internet in case you don´t have your own device.

All beaches are public in St Croix (as they should be everywhere) which is great, although on weekends (and only on weekends) many locals come to the beach and they listen to their music at a VERY loud volume. Truth is we didn´t mind this at all, but it´s worth to mention here.

A few tips:

1. Get a car. The nearest grocery store is only a 5 minute ride but it´s impossible to walk down there. There are no sidewalks. You can pick it up at the airport, which by the way is only 20 minutes away. There is a restaurant next door and it offers great food, but we found it a bit expensive, at least to eat there every day. We got groceries and cooked in our cottage, and it was really great. Also, Sandy Point National Park is a short drive and it´s absolutely wonderful. Do not miss it! They´re only open weekends.

2. Bring a LOT of insect repellent. Otherwise, you´ll suffer the consequences.

We are really looking forward to going back. We LOVED this place.

Thanks to Lyndy and Paul for their kindness, and also to Jennifer, who was really nice.

Hope we´ll see you again soon.
