“Paradise in Judith's Fancy”
Reviewed 25 December 2009

My husband and I just returned from Villa Soleil, which is located in the gated community of Judith's Fancy. The villa was paradise, to say the least. The views were spectacular, and the privacy was wonderful. It's located on a hillside overlooking Salt Bay. There was always a breeze, so it never felt hot. The pool was beautiful, along with all the amenities available. As far as the previous review, by ckbowler in April, 2008, we experienced no leaking roof and no rats. We did, however, have a problem with the burglar/fire alarm, but it was quickly taken care of by the caretaker, who, by the way, was wonderful. Melissa gave us all the information we needed for our stay, with regard to rental car and places to eat. We enjoyed exploring the island, and various beaches. Some days we just stayed at the villa to read a book, enjoy the breathtaking views, including rainbows, and swim in the pool. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Villa Soleil and plan to return in the near future.

“Some thoughts on a vacation in St. Croix”
Reviewed 8 April 2008

We just returned home on April 5, 2008 from a week in St. Croix. The five of us rented Villa Soleil which is located in Judith's Fancy, a gated community on the north side of the island. The villa itself was more than satisfactory in it's amenities, however, we did experience a few minor problems such as internet that did not work for the first few days, the washer didn't work properly, the roof in the master bedroom leaked during a heavy rainstorm, the fire alarm went off for no reason late at night and then was not reset for a few days which meant there was no fire or security system in place, many of the windows do not open or close properly, and, lastly, there seems to be a resident rat on the property who ventures onto the deck each night. I will say that the person who maintains the property on the island for the owner did what he could about the internet and the fire/security alarm but, again, it took a few days. We did find out while looking through some St. Croix real estate magazines that Villa Soleil is up for sale which may be part of the problem. In spite of everything, we had a wonderful time there and on the island. St. Croix is a real island experience. There are few large resorts and the restaurants, for the most part, are tucked away where you would least expect to find them as are some of the attractions you may be looking for such as the "drinking pigs". The beaches were not crowded....even Cane Bay was nearly deserted during the week. Point Udall is a must see but it is quite a drive and the road gets a bit rough. We didn't get to Buck Island as we had planned because the winds all week were extremely strong and the ocean was rough with swells up to 6 feet high at times. I didn't know until after the fact that this can be somewhat common at this time of the year, otherwise, we may have chosen to go a bit later and could have saved some money by waiting until low season.....live & learn. Another point I can't stress enough is that renting a car is a must. We used Judy of St. Croix and they were wonderful to deal with. If you're looking for a relaxing vacation in the Caribbean St. Croix is the place, but if you're looking for excitement and nightlife you may want to research other destinations.

8 Thank ckbowler
