We won this on a game show. Great property and beautiful. Large estate, you must take a cab or shuttle to leave. Very expensive food, cabs, shuttle, most activities, and trips. Unless you are the kind of person who really likes to do nothing by the beach, do not stay here. If you win the trip and like to do things, don't except it.

We attended wedding. The grounds are well-kept and rooms great. The food is good & bar is so comfortable with gorgeous view. Loved the week stay in Feb-no fighting for beach chairs, etc...can be pricey but I would go back!

This place is truly lovely. Beautiful, wide open spaces to walk and relax. The golf course is beautiful. The grounds are well-kept and most of the staff is very friendly. I loved the fitness course alongside the jogging trail/golf course walk. The beach hut was always well-supplied and we never had any problem getting snorkeling gear, kayaks, floats, beach toys, etc. (this is usually always a problem during the holiday season in the Caribbean, so we were impressed). We stayed in the family cottages and liked them, but be warned: there is only one bathroom for the two rooms. Also, we have small children (3 & 5) and there is no way to lock/barricade the outside door to prevent the kids from opening the door at night or while you are showering, etc. It was a little unnerving for us.

The downsides: We found the food to be very overpriced - lunch on the beach (PBJ sandwiches for 2 kids, plus a burger for me) was almost $70 !! We were also disappointed in the NYE buffet. Although the food was decent, it was NOT worth $80 a piece. We were also quite disappointed in the housekeeping services. We stay at nice hotels all over the Caribbean and I have never had a complaint about housekeeping before. However, our housekeeper was not only unfriendly, she was downright rude when I asked her to come back in 10 minutes because I was getting dressed! She also rarely restocked our coffee supplies and did not even fold up towels that were on the towel rack (??!!).

Overall, we liked the place and will return.

My wife and I decided almost a year ago that we would plan a trip to St Croix for our 45th Anniversary and return to where we went on our honeymoon in November 1966. We booked everhthing in the spring and went about our lives. The week of the trip I checked with the Carambola Resort where we had booked our room and found out that they were overbooked and they were going to move us to the Buccaneer Hotel. I had considered staying at the Buccaneer in 1966 but as anew graduate it was not in our price range.
So 45 years later here found oursleves staying at what is one of the nicest old style hotel in the Caribbean. I asked if they could upgrade our room so that we had a view of the Christanstead harbor. When we arrived they drove us to our room and we found oursleves in one of their deluxe Doubloon rooms right on the beach.
All the staff were friendly and helpful especially the concierge staff. The property is beautiful with rolling hillside and a wonderful 18 hole golf course that affords opportunities for walks if you aren't interested in playing.
We spent part of each day at the Mermaid beach only about 50 feet from our room. The beach is well maintained and the water is clear and the bottom is soft sand with almost not shells or rocks. There is a coral reef right at the end of the beach and the beach hut will make available all kinds of equipment to assist in your enjoyment at no additional charge.
The restaurant at the beach provided us with an opportunity for lunch each day without having to get dressed or walk up to the main hotel.
We rented a car for the week as we wanted to explore the island like we had done in past trips (we have been to St. Croix three other times. The car was also quite useful at the hotel allowing us to drive up to the hotel for breakfast and dinner without having to make arrangements for their transport service.
Their buffett breakfast in their open air restaurant was complete and delightful especially the fresh fruit.
The property is quite spread out which means you can enjoy a relaxing and at times quite private holiday and not feel crowded the way most new properties are built.

We took a day cruise over to Buck Island National underwater park. The boat which held 12 was recommended by the concierge and was very nice. We liked the smaller boat. The large cats which sail out of Christansted will stop at the Buccaneers dock to pick you up which makes it quite convenient but we liked the smaller less crowded appeal of the smaller cat. It was a 5 minute drive from the hotel.
Since we had a car we ate in sveral retaurants in Christansted and had good meals at all of them.
This trip was all we had hoped for and I would recommend the Buccaneer to anyone who wants a first class holiday at a posh hotel..

Room Tip: Pay the extra to upgrade to an ocean front room for the view and the proximetry to the beach. Bri...

Just returned from a relaxing Christmas Holiday in the sun at The Buccaneer Resort on St Croix. The staff tended to all my needs leaving me with only having to have fun. Watching the sunsets from The Terrace Lounge made the perfect end to wonderful days.

Looking forward to next Christmas.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms are great.
