The beach is pretty. It is clean and the view is gorgeous. But the water is cloudy, not much to see if you snorkel and we were told there were urchins and jellyfish.

We weren't sure what to expect from South Friars Beach after reading a few mixed reviews, but we ended up really enjoying our visit there. We took a taxi directly from the cruise port and stopped at the top of Timothy Hill along the way. The taxi driver was very nice and accommodating. The views from Timothy Hill were stunning! We accessed the beach through the beach club where you could order drinks and food, eat in or take out. The beach club was very nice and also had a nice menu, and facilities available. Beach chairs and rentals were also available. The beach is short and chairs are actually very close together. Our girls went snorkeling and we enjoyed the water which was beautiful and calm. Glad we went there.

The beach is not huge, but is beautiful. Carambola anchors one end and Shipwreck Bar anchors the other end. Both are fairly large properties with lots of people. There are several other small, quaint establishments that are much quieter on the beach between them. The sand on the beach is just a narrow strip and is the darker sand as opposed to the fine white sand you find elsewhere. There are some rocks in the water, so be careful going in and out. The best snorkeling can be found just to the right of Shipwreck Bar, but is is not great, but there are things to be seen. Fantastic views from this little piece of heaven.

It had been two years since we had last been to St. Kitts and the wonderfully quiet and clean Friars Bay and were so looking forward to revisiting. We disembarked from the cruise ship and were met by the usual band of taxi drivers. I couldn’t actually remember the name of the beach but could show a photo and it was immediately identified – but the taxi drivers didn’t seem too keen to want to take us there – they like to get a ‘full load’ and then take you where they want to go!! We’d been hijacked the previous day in Antigua and we weren’t prepared for the same thing to happen again.
‘Does Magic still work here I asked’ – “yes” – can he take us. Magic could and would – result. He would also take another 2 couples to where they wanted to go – none of this ‘you will go where I want lark’. Magic lived up to his name brill guy – as was Friars Bay.
Last visit it was a very quiet beach but with very good facilities. Since then the facilities have increased, but it is still very clean – the beach is a sheltered bay with good swimming, lovely sand, beach service and changing facilities. The restaurant/bar is also great.
Just ask for Magic and you can’t go wrong.

The beach near the Shipwreck Bar was volcanic ash and was black mixed with sand. Very narrow beach, chairs hard to find and rocky water was cloudy . I would walk further down and there appeared to be a much wider beach with a restaurant also.
