Grand Cayman
Everything and more that I had hoped it would be. Spent out the last few days of 2017 soaking up the sun, floating in the crystal blue water, walking on the beach and just being thankful for blessings that this beautiful island had to offer. December is a time where the weather was 80’s and you could feel a nice island breeze they call Christmas Breeze.

The island was spectacular and everything you would expect is there and somethings you wouldn’t but everything was perfect. I loved the relaxed vive of the people, the chickens and roosters that can be seen everywhere, the fabulous Christmas lights that adorned the private homes along the road, the drive around the island, Drinks at Rum Point and the nice waitress who when asked about my order that it would soon come. It was a good reminder that while on vacation its time to chill and slow down a little. Note to self ...soon come I like it!

So I’ll wrap it up by saying I hope you soon come to Grand Cayman..where I think you’ll find a little piece of heaven on earth and a great safe and lovely place to rest and restore. I stayed at a friend’s place but I did do a little recon on the hotels they all looked good on the 7 Mile Beach Area.

Happy and Safe Travels to all!

Hotel is a short drive to almost of the locations on the island that you want to visit.
If you do no rent a car, they have a bus that can run you around. It was fun walking around the neigthood. Also you can snorkel at the hotel beach.

Part timeshare/ part Holiday Inn.

Stayed at resort Dec. 2017 for two weeks. I have positive and negative comments. First, the positives: the staff is absolutely outstanding. Julie, Kizzy, Karla, Sharon, Lloyd and Tevita are the most pleasant, helpful accommodating people. They deserve 10 stars, not just 5. You cannot find better folks anywhere. My critical comments below have nothing to do with them.

The facility is immaculately clean. The courtyard beautifully landscaped. This is to the credit of the housekeepers and maintenance staff.

Now for the rooms: we enjoy having the amenities of the stocked kitchen and in-room washer/dryer. Being able to wash your beach clothes allows you to have fresh things everyday, so you don’t have to pack so many things.

We were originally on Room 1219 for the first week of our stay: 1 bedroom, 1 bath. Very clean, bed comfortable. Living room sofas need replacing because the cushions have seen their day and not very comfortable to sit on. The dvd, CD players did not work and not replaced even though it was reported to maintenance. The in room safe was broken, but was replaced once a new one was obtained a few days later. Water pressure in shower very weak and water had to run quite a while before water was warm, never hot. Bathroom needs updating. Jet tub, shower enclosure with tall tub that is slippery when stepping in. Could be difficult for person with mobility issues.

The second week, we were in 1233. Very nice 2 bed/2 bath. The sofas were not comfortable, again to age and cushions sinking into sofa sleeper frame. Master en suite bathroom had walk in shower and separate updated jet tub. Water pressure/temp much better. Telephone did not work even for local calls.

Resort in general: Needs some TLC. Beach area unusable, very rocky. Furniture in the area needs replacing. Pier needs work. More of a motel feel than resort. No pool side activities or entertainment. Restaurant on premises had good food. Hot tub was cold.

Location: this resort is isolated, not just quiet. If not for the shuttle service to local points of interest, you would have to rent a car or cab it, which will run from $20-30 per cab ride, $40-50 daily car rental. A remote location may not be a deterrent for some; my comments are based on personal preference for better access to groceries, restaurants, local attractions, beaches. The shuttle service is a huge plus here.

In general: This location is not terrible. I just prefer something with a little more accessibility to local attractions. Maintenance issues were minor. I am not a picky, hig h maintenance kind of person, but when I spend money traveling, I expect things to work...like water pressure, phone, DVD player. Out of date furniture doesn’t bother me but it is an issue when it is uncomfortable. I feel the pictures and description online are deceiving.

Room Tip: Staff/service fabulous. If mobility issues, request room with walk in shower. Business with one computer. Beach unusable.

We did an exchange through interval to stay here for a week. The resort itself is nice, a little dated but clean and well-maintained. The staff by far is what this location has going for it. Jazmin and Daryl are absolutely phenomenal and will do whatever it takes to ensure your stay is memorable and carefree. They keep a smile on their face and truly know what it means to provide the ultimate guest experience. From the time we spoke on the phone until the time we left these ladies were professional and helpful throughout the entire stay. We were unaware that by doing a timeshare exchange we would not get housekeeping except on Wednesday during our 7-Day stay and we ran out of towels but they ensured us they would send someone up with more and did so very quickly. I will say with the limited housekeeping toiletries are slim so plan for that as you pack for this location. They have plenty of parking around the resort as well as a complimentary shuttle that goes into town multiple times a day just let them know at the front desk when you would like to use it and they will sign you up. They do have a restaurant on property that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and a pool bar that was only open one night we were there but it was also a little slower time of the year. The beach has plenty of chairs and a few hammocks for you to enjoy the sunrise. The sand is a little pack down so playing in it would be a little difficult if you had children however Seven Mile Beach is less than a 5 minute drive. They do have jet ski rental on property and a dock that you can walk out and swim off of. We had room 1228 which faced the ocean and the location is very quiet (remember it's an islands so chickens are everywhere) and easily accessible to all the main attractions of Georgetown, Camana Bay and West Bay. They do have a dive shop on site however we ended up diving with Cayman Turtle divers which also provides complimentary Hotel pick up. As with any use of a timeshare there is a tax and it was $10 a night for the studio and the studio has a microwave, a refrigerator, a sink and dishes so you could easily eat breakfast in the room and have your coffee. There is a little store in the main lobby that is open from 9a-6p which has a Keurig machine and serves Green Mountain Coffee that is $1.10 CI for a small cup well as snacks and drinks. There is also a rental car desk in there for your convenience. The main lobby also houses the business center which has books and a computer with internet. The fitness center is equipped with the basic necessities and is well-maintained. The pool area is very pretty and the water is clean and well kept. There are plenty of chairs around the pool as well as little Cabanas and umbrellas for you to enjoy.

My friend traded in a 2 bdrm, 2 bath timeshare condo for one here and when we arrived we were given a 1 bdrm, 1 bath. The unit included a sleeper sofa so we were going to try to make it work however, the springs in the sleeper were broken making it uncomfortable to sit on and definitely uncomfortable to sleep on. The phone in the make living area never did work nor did the ice maker. Initially we tried to work with the front desk to upgrade us to a 2 bdrm unit (there was a 1 bdrm adjacent that was an easy fix) but they refused and even stated it would affect the managers commission!! We finally spoke with a gentlemen who was apparently part owner and he got us the upgrade. The decor was dated and did not match the website. There are two parts of this resort, the hotel, now a Holiday Inn and the timeshare part still the Grand Caymanian.

The service by the pool was non-existent. You had to go to the restaurant door and get someones attention as no "dripping" was allowed in restaurant. The pool bar was open part of the time but closed early. The first nite we were there, there was a kids pool party with quite a few kids. The next day at nearly noon there was still a great deal of the trash from the party around the pool. We pointed this out to the "manager/owner" who immediately got it taken care of.

The beach is OK, the board walk was in disrepair. But it was quiet and peaceful.

It was stated that the resort was just coming out of bankruptcy and it was hoped that a hedge fund would acquire it and there would be an infusion of money to update it. Until this happens, don't expect a lot. There was no happy hour, no events or activities to participate in as there had been in the past. No bands or music other than radio. Again, this added to the peacefulness but may not be what you are looking for in a resort.

The shuttle was limited on where it would take you which I feel could be more accommodating.

Things to note about Grand Cayman, grocery store and other stores are closed on Sunday. Restaurants are open. Cayman money is worth more than US. $40CI = $50US. Drinks and food are expensive and 15% gratuity is added across the board.

The Diving is fabulous. The water usually calm an pristine. The beaches are soft and wonderful on parts of the island and rocky on other parts.

Room Tip: All rooms were quiet and offered a view of the ocean from the balconies. All rooms had balconies or patios
