During a recent cruise port visit to Saint Martin we drove to Marigot - and on a whim we decided to eat at Le Sous-Marin and got to meet Jean-Baptiste and his family. We enjoyed the casual bistro style restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the homemade food we ate: Feta cheese Quiche (hot just out of the oven), Veal Banquette (so tasty and the meat so tender), Chocolate Mousse (so light & fluffy & just melts in your mouth) and also a slice of custard pie (delicious). We noticed a guy leaving the "to-go" window with their signature dish - a hamburger served on a whole fresh baked french baguette (sous-marin) with all the trimmings - and as he was leaving he was already taking a bite and gave us the thumbs up sign.
Jean-Baptiste was so friendly and was so excited to tell us about how he made all his dishes, lasagna with beef slowed cooked in a red-wine sauce, Chicken Cordon Blue - a chicken breast sliced and stuffed with ham and cheese and then baked, Boeuf Bourguignon - slowed cooked red -wine based beef "stew" and so many more. If you are in this part of Saint Martin (French side) you HAVE to visit Le Sous-Marin.

Stopped in for lunch. Had the cheese and chicken pinini's and French fries. Fresh made bread. Food delicious. Family owned. Husband and wife very friendly. Would definitely recommend and would visit again.

We came here based solely on Trip Advisor reviews. The reviews raved about the friendly service, lasagna and such. We did not have the same experience. In their defense maybe it was due to our arrival time, approximately 4pm. It took quite a bit to even be acknowledged. No menu, which was fine. The owner (the wife) offered quiche, panni or salt fish. Nothing else was offered. We chose panni. I was so shocked by all of this, I kept getting on Trip Advisor to confirm we were in the right place! The sandwiches arrived and in all honesty were pretty good. But, it was just the sandwich, no side. Nothing was offered. We did have the chocolate mousse which was good. When we were finished with the mousse, the chef ( the other owner) arrived. He immediately came up to greet us and shook our hands and removed our empty mousse containers. We were very disappointed in our experience. We were not even given napkins, very odd. I'm sure our experience was based on timing. If you go try later in the evening....

Stopped to look at the menu and the owner wanted to tell me how everthing on the menu was made, to the point where we felt obligated to eat there. We ordered a slice of Quiche with a salad each, it took some time to be served and one plate arrived with a slice of quiche surrounded by shredded lettuce and a little dressing. So had to wait longer for another slice to be served. We had to wait again for the check. So our fast light lunch took over an hour. The Quiche was ok, but nothing really special and the shredded lettuce overpriced. I should have stuck with a sandwich, they looked quite yummy. Our least faourite place to eat while on this vacation kn Marigot.

I wish we could have eaten here more often - especially dinner, but staying in Oyster Pond the drive in the dark was just too long! The host and hostess are fabulous and extremely genuine. It is obvious that they love what they do and that they love feeding people good food. The leek and goat cheese quiche was amazing and my husband loved his chicken cordon bleu. We were persuaded by Jean-Baptiste to try the chocolate mousse - his wife's specialty - and it didn't disappoint. Very reasonable prices for excellent quality food.
